New to me '88
I sold my RS America in 2007. I had it around 3 or 4 years. Fantastic car, but it had a salvage title. Never really felt I'd keep it for the long haul. That was back when Turbo 3.6's were $50k and 993 Turbos were slightly more expensive. I figured I'd eventually get in to one of those bigger badder cars at some point. Then the market did what the market did. I passed on a 71 S in '07 for under $25k.
More recently my attitude was, I'll take anything as long as there is no rust. I can do anything but fix rust. Along came this rust free, local '88 with no engine & no trans. I'll be seeking advice on putting this car back together and then enjoying it as is. All parts should be present short of a few odd screws. I have no plans to do any type of external restoration. At some point I'd like to go through and restore all of the brake and suspension bits, put on a nice set of wheels and tires and clean up the interior as much as possible. This cars is solid as a rock and does not appear to have been hit or repainted anywhere. The car doesn't even really have any dings or metal damage. And everything not present in the pictures is on hand. I'm absolutely thrilled with what it is and looking forward to getting it going. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Congrats and welcome to the never ending journey.
I'm building a 87 and a 88 and will have some of the missing nuts and bolts you might need. Start a build thread and keep us all posted-that's what I did 2 911 G50 Builds at the Same Time Rolf

....if one comes along for sale. Still no clue where I'm going to find an engine and trans, hopefully something pops up locally. In the meantime I'm going to work on what I have.
Started a little light polishing to see how the paint will come back. There are areas where it's completely faded away so it will never look perfect. But I think it will clean up okay. I'm going to see if someone like Safelite will come out and re-install all the glass. This will serve as a build/progress/ask questions thread. Before: ![]() After: ![]()

Can anyone tell me where to find a couple of these? Or provide a part number? They're for headlight adjustment. Can't find them here on Pelican. I'm missing two of them.

Clutch Question:
The engine I bought is what started out as a 3.2 but now has a 3.6 crank. When shopping clutch components, do I look for 964 stuff? The trans is a G50 from a 3.2 car. Flywheel? Slave Cylinder? I'd like to use 964 RS parts.

the 3.6 crank should have the same bolt pattern as the 3.2. So G50 stuff should bolt right up.
If the 964RS clutch bits are the same diameter as the 3.2, then the 964RS clutch bits should work. IDK anything about the slave cylinders.

Awesome find. Have fun with it. I love the paint too. Kind of a rat rod ‘88 in the making. Not many of those around. I’m jealous. Sometimes I feel like mine is too nice to drive and worry about it in the parking lots. If you do the work yourself which it looks like you will, you may come out on top financially.

Got the dash board back from the upholstery shop and back in the car, not 100% satisfied but I'll live with it. I had the door card tops and trim pieces below the rear side windows done to match. Next stop at some point is Olsen Motorsports in Downer Grove IL for a headliner and glass reinstall. About the only thing this car will be in a shop for. Once I sell my M3, the pace should pick up. I doubt It will be done by Spring though.

I’m excited to see how this car is going to turn out! That dashboard looks amazing! Never seen one with Alcantara/suede but I love it now! Tim @ Olsen Motorsports will definitely take care of you. I just had my calipers rebuilt & re-plated with them and they turned out great! Hope to see you driving around in spring! |
