Shifter adjustment 86 911.

The shifter on our 911 is very loose/rattle around 2200-2800 rpm’s in 3rd gear.
All other gears are fine&tight.

The coupler is new, and I’m advised that the
bushings are not worn.

Tried several mechanics, but no joy.

Any thoughts from the pros out there.

Thanks in advance, and best of TG holiday to all.

Best,

Gerry

Do you have the factory shifter?
I'd remove the boot and see if you can tell where the rattle or slop is coming from. In my experience, the pin at the front of the shift housing (secured by the large locknut) is a common culprit.
The shifter can usually benefit from cleaning and relubing everything (then you can also see what pieces might be worn.)

From where is the rattle noise coming? Shifter lever or linkage or from the gearbox itself?
Could you make a record / video that we can hear/see what you mean?

I'll bet money your Shift linkage bushings are worn/blown. Experienced the same issue, and after installing a new linkage assembly the problem was resolved.
