How common is Carmine red?

I have been reading these boards for some time but have only just decided to register. Yeah I know!

Anyhow, my '87 Carrera is Carmine red and as far as I recall I have only seen one other person on these boards listing that color - also on a late 80's Carrera IIRC.

To the best of my knowledge I have never actually seen another Porsche in that color - although to be honest it is quite difficult to tell without putting them side by side.

How many others have this too? Just interested...
thanks,

Mark

I do--same year as you too!

One time I went to look at a barn project--guy was trying to mount a Taurus SHO engine in an early 911. Was kind of cool--from what he said it would go in really easily and would make the car mid-engined.

Anyway he saw my car and when I told him it was the original color he said he could have sworn it was a repaint.

Thanks for the replies.
It does appear from the replies so far that it is specific to 1987.

I get comments every now and again along the lines of "...I thought it was faded" I suppose they are expecting Guards Red. Personally I like it as it's just a bit different

mthomas58 - I think Carnutzzz must have been the one I saw previously.

To my eyes Guards Red is a bit orangey.

Carmine Red

I bought mine in 2003 and subsequently found another for a friend who 'had to have one' 4 months ago.

Here's a pic of the two. Mine's the one in the foreground. Both have a tan interior. The longer I have the car, the more I like the colour.

Red face

aerkuld!
Are you kiddin' me?!?
Is that a picture of your car? WOW! Beautiful shot! I just made it my desktop.
Beautiful, just beautiful..................
Looks like the driver's seat is reclined just enough for someone to have been sittin' there listening to, oh, maybe, "Baker Street", at high volume...
Just give me that ol' fashoned rock and roll....

I also have an '87 Carmine Red Carrera! I wanted Guards Red when I was looking, but I have grown to love Carmine Red. Other Porsche owners also always seem to comment on how much they like the color.

Whoa- a deluge!

For a while it was just Jorian and I on the board with this color- now everyone is coming out of the woodwork!

Interesting to see how many chime in...

Great looking car, carnutzzz! Looks like my car in your driveway. Your pictures seem to be capture the true color of Carmine Red more so than mine does.

How do you know if your car is Guards or Carmine? Is there a color code somewhere?

On my '87, there is 4-digit paint code is on the white sticker on the inside of the front hood. Carmine Red is L80F. I think Guards Red is L80K.

Carmine red is an 87 - 88 only colour. According to a PO there were only 8 Carmine 911 red cars titled in 87' and the colour was used on the 928 in in 88'.

Jorian--only eight '87 Carmine Red Carreras?!? If that's true all eight are present and accounted for in this thread. Do you know if the PO meant North America or the world?

Not sure what the PO meant. I also saw another for sale in Atlanta last year which would put the number at 9. So I'm not sure. I guess we can just agree that its rare.
