1969-1973 split ring steering bushing

Our team has designed, manufactured and is presently road testing a MDS Nylon split ring steering bushing that we're told is a NLS item. I would like to get some feed back to see if there's a demand for this product. I'm not sure what the final production cost will be, however I'm guessing it will be less than $25.00, a lot depends on the demand, so that's a shot in the dark...

If there's a market for it then Pelican Parts will carry it as they do now for our "74"-"89" steering bushing, P/N PEL-ML-STR.

I appreciate the input, it looks like there's some interest. How about this... We have presently have one long term road test underway which so far has been successful. However I would like to do further road tests before putting the bushing into production. I would like to get 3 of you that drive your cars on a "regular basis" to try the bushing for further evaluation. The difference in my reproduction is the bushing is made of MDS Nylon which is a bearing material, but not steel as in the factory bushing. I want to be sure that the MDS Nylon will do the job...

I'll forward my split ring bushing, no charge if you'll report back in 30 days how it installed, and your overall opinion of it as a replacement part before I turn it over to Pelican Parts.

ring!

does this necessitate that the steering mechanism be removed or is it like the later model bearings that just press {drive} into place or...am i just totally misguided about this part??

The split ring bushing is under the steering wheel. Remove the steering wheel and the split ring bushing will be accessible.

I have been working with Mitch L in getting this split ring to work as an Easy fix for the Early cars as there is one for the later model cars already.

I have personally had to replace the upper bearing because the split ring was missing which caused all the bearings to roll out of the upper bearing. Changing the upper bearing forces you to Remove the Entire column from the car to press the old bearing out... not to mention the cost of the OE bearing - not found aftermarket +$200.

I am still road testing the part with about 300-400 miles on the current configuration. The steering wheel feels Rock Solid.

Mitch L - Give me a call when you get a chance.

I'm in, and will buy one now-don't care if it fails in a 6 months, a year or 5 as I do not put many miles on my car per year.

Dick,

I have one sample to put out for a road test. If you would like to try it, give me a PM with your e-mail address and mailing information and I'll forward the split ring bushing and steel washer to you.

Thanks,
