Calling all iroc tribute owners

This year is the 50th anniversary of the IROC series that arguably launched Porsche into the American landscape in a big way. The ABC Sports TV special covered the races at Riverside and Daytona.
The 12 drivers were invited from Formula 1, Nascar, SCCA, etc to go head to head with identical Porsche IROC RSRs. The only difference was the crayola box of colors that were unique to each car.
Drivers would be handed a different car for each race they drove.

Fast forward to 2023 and we are "getting the band back together" with the recreation of the IROC Gruppe. Based on members preparing their cars in the palette of colors, coupled with the right graphics and other details, we will be having our own and joining other special events starting in September of this year.

We will have a Touring group and a Track Racing group.
the Touring group is for those wanting to participate in special exhibitions and shows. Many times parade laps will be open to Touring group members when we combine a track and show event
The races are strictly for exhibition and our organization will be managing the starting and finishing positions as long as entrants mix it up to put on the show.
So crazy horsepower is of no benefit and this will allow the lesser prepped (but equally safe!) care to participate and have fun.

We are starting our group on the west coast for 2023 and will branch out going eastwards as our entrant list grows.

Interested? Please contact me at targacalifornia@gmail.com for joining and getting more details

Been a while since I put up the first post. A bunch of us are in the process of building cars for the group. We have a Touring contingent and a Track one.

Touring is for members that are not into vintage type wheel to wheel racing, but would enjoy back roads tours, shows as a group, and parade laps at various tracks.

Track is for wheel to wheel vintage racing , which will include IROC only races when our numbers satisfy the sanctioning organization's requirements. Our IROC only races will be exhibition style with the focus on close side by side and multiple passing done in a sportsmanlike manner. There are no restrictions on displacement, horsepower, or chassis prep as there are no winners ranked on where you finish. Awards are for best presentation of the cars and putting on the show.
The exteriors of the cars must have the correct graphics and since there were only 15 colors to begin with we are allowing other colors to join in. In the case where there are duplicate colors, driver names and numbers will differ

We had 5 cars at RR7 parked by the turn 5 bridge and as of this date, it looks like 10 more will be completed soon. We will continue posting pics and info on the cars here

Our starter events for 2024 begin with Targa California March 20th- 23rd focusing on the Central Coast

Our first planned race weekend will be with HMSA at Laguna Seca March 22-24th. Yep- overlap so the Touring group members will be able to enjoy parade laps and joint pics with the Track racers that weekend << THIS IS SCHEDULED BUT NOT 100 % AS OF THIS POSTING. TO BE CONFIRMED ASAP

Other events will be announced as we finish our preparations with other events (both Touring and Track)

Please contact me if you are interested in joining us

That's pretty awesome. I remember watching this racing series on TV while building 911's in LEGO as a kid...

Do not drive an IROC, but would like to participate in the Targa California. Will the March Rally be in CA or Arizona?

Wasn't RS Werks in PA building IROC replicas for a time? Did all of that disappear like dust in the wind when they closed up shop, or did their kinda successor Sanctuary pick up that ball?

Yes, they did a slick posting on their sites for street and track versions. But they had some major problems and closed up. Not sure how many were actually completed. Though we would like to build some for clients, we respect anyone (pro or owner) that goes ahead and builds their own. We have helped most of the current crop of cars with sharing info , supplying parts, etc. And in turn they have put forth the effort to help us with details of their builds.
