brake upgrade

which is the best way to upgrade the brakes on a 87 turbo?
Choices are:
1) big reds all around.
2) big red up front move fronts to rear.
3) brembo evolution brake up front move fronts to rear.
I have 18" rims

I have to ask why would you want to basterdize your late model 930's braking system?

With upgraded pads I have yet to find the stock braking system deficient in any way.

I would assume you are trying to fill your 18" wheels for cosmetic reasons.

I have to agree. The stock 930 setup is awesome. Are you tracking the car and getting brake fade? If not, none of your options is going to make the car stop any faster than up-to-spec 930 brakes.

brake fade is the problem I have to go to the floor to stop after a couple laps of the track. new pads,(porterfield pads) flush and new fluid (super blue) Not a fun feeling.

If you are going to upgrade you might as well get the whole package. Porsche spent a bunch of money paying some really smart engineers to balance a brake system, so you might as well get the benefit of all of that well spent R&D money.

Wow. I've never heard of that happening with 930 brakes. Is it a heavily-modified (or extra heavy) Turbo?

You must be reducing serious speed on a consistent basis to produce brake fade on your car, but it's possible on many point and squirt courses where the brakes have a hard time recovering between applications. In these conditions, heat builds up faster than the rotor can normally dissipate.

I guess you have the HD brake pad and brake fluid areas covered. Are you ducting in some air into the brake caliper/rotor area? That would be my suggestion to find the no-fade zone. I'm not sure if Jack is still using these in BBII, but I'd also suggest trying them before budgeting the necessary cash for giant Reds, Alcons or Brembos and associated rotors and rotor adapters.

Try getting some cooling air to the brakes.....

Before upgrading to big reds etc, why not duct some cool air to your brakes?..... 930 brakes are awesome

The Glen isnt a really punishing track for brakes, it has a number of fairly long stretches between brake apps....that let the brake cool .

some turns at the glen you dont even brake for

If pads/fluid/cooling fail to help then you need bigger rotors. 322x32mm 993tt rotors are the next step up. The Big Reds on the front only will give you 75% more pad area at that end. Bias will still be good w/ stock rear rotors and calipers. After that get these rear calipers on the stock 930 rear rotors. They are 993C4S rear calipers(993tt used the same caliper w/ smaller pistons), they are red but are really just 993/S4 size. A perfect match for the Big Red fronts.

calipers in the front row are Big Reds, calipers in the rear row are the 993C4S rears
