Question using CitriStrip to remove carpet fuzz/adhesive?

Read quite a few threads all dated from the past and I see to use gloves and "don't get in your eyes" but didn't see anything about breathing protection.

Started tearing out the carpets which is going well, just wanted to check with others about whether to get a good mask or not with CitriStrip.

Large 3 car garage with great ventilation. I don't mind buying a good respirator just curious as I've never used this product before.

Thanks-
Erik

Get a respirator anyway…and use around any prolonged projects for the house or car. When you hit 60, your lungs will thank you.

I only used CitriStrip for latex and polyurethane removal, never on adhesive, wasn’t impressed with its result. Didn't smell much certainly nothing volatile.
The old 911 carpet adhesives (even old flooring adhesives) are petrol-based, so the organic “safe” removers are not as effective. Takes a long time to absorb and soften, covering the treated area with plastic helps keep the remover from drying out before it can do its job.

But as far as the removal of the old hardened spray-on carpet adhesives in the first place, I used low odor mineral spirits on some areas found it still a slow messy process so i didn't bother when reattaching footwell carpeting with 3M #90, and vinyl trim on door arm rest pockets with basic contact cement. That old glue is so hard that reapplying a fresh coat wont affect adhesion.
Replacing carpeting shouldn’t require removing the old adhesive anyway as any lumps from old glue don't show thru carpet. Thin vinyl, it might.

Unless you’re going for bare floor track use look, why bother stripping glue?

Agreed.

Just going to install new carpet and as much as I want to "do it right" this car is not a show car, use it weekly and on cross country trips - not to mention we are moving across country in a few months and at the new location will have a proper shed to do it right - if I feel it necessary.

I am going to buy the respirator anyway (as you state), been meaning to have one around.

I think just a good cleaning and installing the new carpets will give me the results I want for now.

Thanks - much appreciated.
Erik
