How do you jack up the front?

Ok, so I sold my Bendpak scissor lift, just wasn't a good fit for me.

How do you guys jack up the front end without going side to side?

When I lift the rear I put the jack with a block of wood under the sump and lift the whole rear at once.

I don't think putting the jack under the tank would be good (with a block of wood of course), but not sure.

I basically want to get the car on jack stands with the stands being at the "C" and "D" locations.

I'm really not keen on lifting from the side with the jack adaptor, I've done it but it really makes me nervous.

I Jack the front at “A”, right at the tow hook.

911obgyn 02-26-2024 12:22 PM

I use a 2x4 that spans across the tortion bar covers and lift from center.

rowingone 02-26-2024 12:37 PM

using a 2x4 is a bad idea . . maybe 2 2x4s.

Hulley 02-26-2024 01:35 PM

Thanks everyone, I'll give that a shot, I have some scrap 4x4 and 2x4s.

i put a 4x4 in front of the gas tank and behind the front condenser and lift both sides at once. 4x4 location is the large A in the first figure herein.

Same structure that control arm (torsion bar) bolts to.

I reverse up onto low ramps then jack up at the tow hook it lifts the whole front and i put the jack stands wherever

This reply shows how I safely elevate my 911.

Thanks but I'm not wild about using that specific location, I have done it many times and have the proper jack adaptor but I still dont like it, plus I want to lift either end at the same time and place jack stands at different locations.

2"x4" cut to fit between the front of the A-arms, on the cross member on the tub.

The ratcheting jack stands I use on my Macan, as shown in this reply, or something similar, would permit safely raising / supporting the 911 at locations C and D.

I lift the front by jacking on the centre of the steel bar that guards the condenser. Jack stands at the torsion bar anchors. Condenser is long gone but I kept the bar for that specific purpose.
Been doing it for 15 years, so confident in saying there's no problem.

That's pretty interesting, thanks for this!

Using the factory jack holes, you want the jack at an angle, not perpendicular or parallel to the chassis, as the PP article shows ...

and discussed here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1144744-car-slipped-off-jack-stand.html.

As to the front, here's a fun read

Stay safe !

Pucks are it for Jack stands

Jack holes are okay, but to get the entire front I place a 4x4 on the tub as noted in red.
Block the rear wheels of course. Jack stands can go on the torsion bar control arms mount, or on my hockey pucks. I still have a condenser so I DO NOT use the crash bar as shown in the figure. If you want to remove the control arms to change the bushings you’ll need a different spot than the mounts, hence hockey pucks!

Not my idea (pucks) so search for the threads on it. There are four M10 holes in just the right places if you want to bolt on your pucks.

If you have the rear up on jack stands under the torsion bars, the safest and best place to put a jack stand (you can move them later). Then you can basically lift anywhere in the front, its very light with the engine cantilevered on the stands. A jack under one of the front a-arms is probably the best and easiest.

I bought a second jack last week.

I have an 87. If I lift up using two jacks on the factory lift points behind the front wheels, will I be able to get some wheel cribs 6" under the tires before the back of the car hits the ground?

Try it and let us know ;).

If your car is not lowered I would think it is not an issue. but have never tried that. Why not just one jack on a 4x4 on the tub right in front of the gas tank? Would be easier than the two jack method. My 2 cents, and block the rear wheels.

:) will try it out and see.

I got a second jack because for the rear, I don't know if there's an area like the front I can use to lift up the rear in one fell swoop. Don't want to lift up using the engine.

proporsche 02-28-2024 08:30 AM

do not worry too much lifting the car by the engine ,Porsche-brothers did it back in those days..
