20E engine into 71 VW pickup clutch interface
So, 71 VW bus transmission with a 69 2.0E engine bolted to it. That part works fine, and the bus trans will hold up if I don't beat it. I've done a few swaps like this in the past, but the interface of the bus throwout bearing to the 69 911 pressure plate diaphram fingers could be better. The bus clutch has curved fingers in the center to relate to the flat surface of the bus throwout bearing. The 69 911 PP fingers are flat. See the pics. The flat outer edge of the bus T/O bearing will likely be the contact area on the 911 plate when the pedal is on the floor. Rather have a fuller contact patch. The 911 T/O bearing is rounded, but no way to attach it to the bus release fork. Somebody probably has the fix. Any suggestions?

Try Patrick motorsports in Phoenix, they may be able to help or point you in the right direction.
They understood my Baybus - 911 conversion. Cheers, Woody |

I've got got a KEP made vw flywheel with a Porsche 2.0 bolt pattern center. Use stock Type 1 p/p and t/o bearing. Is '71 bus is still an upright motor? I had a a '68 2.0 in a 70 bug. this set up worked great.
Sold the bug without the motor then sold motor... still have the flywheel. I'll try to tack a picture tomorrow .

Yes, last year of the 1600 motor in a bus. I would be interested in your flywheel. Probably need a beefed pressure plate with the 2.0

Just found another rear bumper that's straight. Need to take a couple of inches out at the bottom to clear the muffler. Spending $$ at Wolfsburg West, new rubber all around, seat padding and covers.

Carrera Baybus
I am closing in on completing this one. It's been in the family for about 20 years and sitting for about 15. All the body work, mechanical and paint was done by Emory's in McMinnville, OR circa 2008. It currently sits on 225/50/16's - 7x16 fronts + 8x16 rears, real Fuchs (weld ups in the rear) narrowed beam in front, 944 hubs, brakes and more. I just got a Kennedy Engineering stage 2 setup for the transition of the 911 motor to the Baybus trans. The next item is the starter motor. Strong advice indicates that a VW Diesel Rabbit starter motor with adapter will do the trick and spin the 911 motor effortlessly. Then some welding for motor mounts, oil tank, mechanical stuff and some wiring. Also trying to get the dash gauges squared away and a bunch of details. I'm not trying to high jack John Walkers thread. Just another stalled Baybus project being reborn. Cheers ................. |

The '76 "Pyramid Case" transaxle with strong 4.86 R&P is what you want for this project, John.

Actually '75 is what I meant. The last of the 002's .. but 091 diff can be installed with 091 side adjusters.
