Paint Code Question
So car color is platinum metallic. A color offered for the 911 Carrera in 1984. However the stamp/label then shows a code which implies the color was customized. Perhaps altering it slightly for a more bespoke appearance.
Is that what the L999 may mean after the L655? Or the 9 and 3 in second badge? TIA ![]()

I believe it means paint to sample.

Hi IU89- It appears (VIN = WP0E) that your '84 is a convertible. Did it come from the factory with a top color other than Black?
Also- '9' in your code refers to the place of paint application, which is the Porsche Factory and '3' is for Herberts paint. Hope this helps!

Yes, L999 on the white factory spec label means it was a Paint To Sample option.
The color chosen for PTS is 655 so there’s no question when it comes time for matching the shade. As stated the 9 and 3 refers to paint type and paint mfg. Those labels often fall off, torn off, disappear over time - do the next steward a favor…write them down in the owners manual if there isn’t another label already inside the manual ! |
