side / turn / rear LED bulbs codes?
Hello
I have a US 911SC 1982, so in my front bumper I have 4 orange lenses (2+2) and on the rear I have 2 tail lenses Id like to replace all my bulbs and all my lenses (especially the front to be clear with amber LED) but I cannot find a unique source of information I was able to order the Teil lenses so far, but I need to know all the bulb codes and the codes of the front signal vs parking light in the PET book, they don't acknowledge the Us version so I don't know the codes nor they mention the bulb dimensions thanks |

Daniel Stern did all the leg work for us by finding the best and brightest bulbs that actually work effectively.
John Audette put them together in a tidy little package. Don't bother with the LEDs. They are not an upgrade in this situation.

be sure to check out the 911-specific led assemblies forum member spoke has put together. https://www.spokeworksled.com/911-led-solutions I have his rear brake light led replacements installed and they fit beautifully and are BRIGHT! -- haven't bothered with turn signals/etc., as I personally am fine with the incandescent bulbs for these indicators.

yes in principle i agree with you guys that LED vs incandescent makes no big difference
the only reason is aesthetical I think: I want to try a modern look without the orange lenses, and keep them all clear "white" but at the same time I don't like to see the orange bulb inside (like in some 964 I stumbled on Instagram) that where the LED help because they are white when "off" very minor thing I know ![]() |

Not sure what your trying to accomplish with using clear lenses and lamps.

Cars have no orange lenses since the early 2000
I think you are confusing lenses with bulbs My plan is to have all clear lenses (not bulbs) in the front but with LED in amber/orange color LED are cosmetically white when they are off. |

I have clear front turnsignal lenses and run white running lights with amber turnsignals.

Im still looking for an answe: are the 4 lenses in the front all the same? Can i order 4 of them no matter left/right?
Im asking because my parking light lenses seems to have a reflector inside with a Z or stars shape… Last edited by francesconyc; 04-02-2024 at 06:53 PM.. |

I'd love to discourage you from giving your vintage 911 a "modern" look. Actually some domestic manufacturers are now using amber rear signals as well. I've noticed Buicks especially. Amber rear turn signals are an advantage over red to distinguish the brakes from turn signals.

Here are the sizes of the boards I make for the front turnsignal and sidemarker. Length difference is 0.1 inch and width difference is 0.05 inch. These sizes are to fit inside the lenses for each. Front Sidemarker PCB: 6400.001mil x 1700.000mil Front Turnsignal PCB: 6500.001mil x 1650.000mil

After my 914 came back on a flatbed after being rear-ended less than 1/2 mile from my house, I vowed to make LEDs bright enough that people would definitely see my 914 in front of them. ![]() The LED brakes that I make for the 911 burn 5W and are about 2.5x brighter than the OEM bulb which burns 21W. Getting hit from behind in any car is traumatic. In a modern road car, you just go out and get another modern road car. Get hit in your vintage Porsche and the car may be gone and never exactly replaced or the same. For rear turnsignals, there is a huge advantage to running red turnsignals vs amber. Amber lights cannot be operated as running lights in the rear of any vehicle. But red lights are ok. So for my LEDs, I steal running light power from the sidemarker and light up the turnsignals gently at night to increase the running light footprint at night by 3x. Again, all for safety. Here's a 911 with red rear turnsignals lit gently as running lights. The size of the turnsignal lit up dwarfs the tiny brake running light at night. ![]()

Loves me some Audette Collection and I'm a happy repeat customer, including a set of amazing ECE JW Speaker LEDs that I just couldn't bring myself to install in my '88 for aesthetic reasons. I thought the black housings would integrate well on a black car. Instead it gave the car an insect / arachnid vibe. I made it this far, changed my mind and went back to stock...
![]() I don't love the idea of installing higher wattage turn signal / running light brake light bulbs in 35 - 55 year old 911s (I don't even like the idea of stock wattage bulb amperage draw with our ancient wiring harnesses). I don't know how much more current these brighter bulbs draw, but whatever it is, I don't like it. Personally, I go with LEDs (specifically Spokeworks units), 10 times outta 10 on these cars. IMO, the minor aesthetics isssue is a small price to pay for vastly superior lighting performance (including the resultant larger "rear visual footprint") AND significantly less current draw on 35 -55 year old wiring harnesses. This just seems like an easy decision for me and my non-concours cars. There is a middle option of drop-in Philips LED "bulbs" (vs Spokeworks boards) as seen in the bottom of this pic... ![]() There is no aesthetic downside that I can see for this option. I've tried both however and still prefer the performance of the Spokesworks boards (they provide the same output regardless of housing reflector condition). In use, the square configuration Spokeworks boards are a bit better aesthetically than the round configuration units pictured. FWIW, up front, I have a hybrid opinion regarding LED vs halogen H4 headlights. For sugar scoops, so far I like the Morimoto drop-in 7" round LED solution, with added relays. Holley (Morimoto) Retrobright LED ![]() For 911 specific headlights (i.e. non-sugar scoop),.I prefer traditional, stock wattage, H4s for their simplicity and performance, again, with added relays (there's no reason to continue stressing those decades old headlight and turnsignal switches by running headlight current through them). ![]() Anywho, relayed halogen H4s up front and LEDs everywhere else for my driving use case (mostly daytime) on my non-concours cars.

2nd what Glen said. Spokes are awesome and even during the day they are super bright, but don't have much of a modern look behind the stock lenses.
I'm not about the 5k 6k bright white lights, but if behind a colored lense and possibly color matching I will go for LEDs all day. Plus as Spoke has said the draw is a lot less 5w compared to 21w so win win.
