can't identify dashboard switch

Hi, Everyone: I’m curious what this switch is for ?

I’ve seen the knockout opening on a SC dash before but no clue what it was for.
That knob looks like it would open/close a flapper for an hvac function. A similarly styled knob can be found on aftermarket dealer installed ac console, also had a pair of these on a VW I once owned, they opened the windshield defroster flaps.
Good chance you can see where it attaches underneath.

edit just clicked on link uwon posted and its a pretty great rabbit-hole of various things that particular dash-spot was used for !

I had a Euro 83 with auto heat and there was nothing there except for the knockout. The knob definitely doesn't look factory to me.

It's a "U Turn" switch. Very common in countries where the idiot in front of you enacts a U Turn with zero warning........
