911 and 993 Engine Holding Fixture

I visited Dave of TRE last Saturday and while browsing the yard, I noticed his 'engine holding fixture.' This is the half-circle unit which attaches to an engine stand. I asked him if it would hold a 993 and he said that it would and that is why it is 'notched.'

Does anyone possess this unit and have modified it to also hold a 993? Pics would be awesome. I am getting serious getting my 3.6 project to a good, slow, but well-planned route.

I think they are all the same. I have had a 993 engine on the standard 911 engine yoke. Not sure what notch you're talking about however.

I have this (4 arm) and a 5 arm. You need to notch them to clear an exhaust flange on a 3.0 or 3.2, maybe there is similar issue with the 993?

TRE showed me the notch and therefore 'notching' will be required. TRE, though, does not remember what other mods are required.

Chris,

Why do you have both? Am I to assume that the 4-arm is the older version of the 5 arm?

If the 4 arm is strong enough for a 993, are you willing to sell? (just curious)!!!

A guy wanted me to work on his motor and I already was using my stand so he bought another engine stand and yoke so I could work on his motor. It's not for sale, at least not at this time. I'd use the 5 arm for 964 and later motors if only to keep Wayne happy.
