Question Help install MSD ULTRA 6AL in 82 SC with diagram

my 82 SC has stock distributors, rotor, etc
I just bought the newer version of the 6AL in a compact size called ULTRA
I guess it is called ULTRA because it has some more features that I guess I won't be able to use for now with stock components, but I got it at the same price as the bigger brother, so I guess it will be easier to install it int he same place of CDI unit.

This unit is probably too new to find diagrams online so I hope maybe this can help new users.
I made this diagram because the harness has a LOT of wires and I want to be am thinking correctly

can you please confirm?

I have the 6A. The small red wire is by itself in the harness. Hard to see in picture but it is there.
Yes ignore the pink blue lt blue black. Ignore the CAN. Ignore the MSD crank. The white and the violet green batched wires depend on your distributor you have. I think you should have a distributor with a vacuum advance (or retard). On the side of the distributor should be a retaining clip that holds in a plug. Should be two small spade style connectors side by side. The violet green combo plugs in there. But I do not think the connector on the MSD harness fits so you may have to make you own. Make sure you verify positive and negative sides. You should not need a tach adapter. The gray wire would connect directly to the tach

so it seems there is really no need to use the plug going to the CDI box or do I need to extract any wire form there? i guess the grey?

yes I dot have a distributor with vaccums... i haven't paid attention if there is a plug coming form there but I guess it is there

thanks in the meantime

what car is yours?

I don't know what you mean by not using plug going to cdi. you need to use the wire harness that came with the MSD box

Why do this at all? Why not rebuild your German Bosch 6 pin and use the existing factory harness / wiring ? What could be better about a miniature PCB based mass produced Chinese unit with non discreet components that you have to needlessly rewire to work? It makes no sense IMHO ..... If you and your 911 were located in Germany you would not do this at all !

yes I understand that, but on other youtube videos I saw people creating adapters between MSD and the old CDI harness... probably not needed I guess

That is a good video. Wish it showed more of the diagram he followed. I like how it shows the strength of the MSD spark and the multiple sparks. That is an excellent way to tie into your existing wiring and it seams straight forward relatively easy. Not cutting things up. Looks like you are getting it done.

Timmy2 (Dennis Powell) makes a simple plug and play adapter harness. I have one installed in my '70 with 3.0. Threw the MSD wiring diagrms away. If it's electrical and I can install it it's gotta be simple. Works great. Give Dennis a call.

yes when I saw the before/after CDI vs MSD I was like wow. with MSD sounds like a new car vs. a grumpy old car
