Safari alignment specs...any suggestions?
Hey everyone,
I've been working on a safari conversion for a 78 SC RoW for the past few months. Pulled the engine to repair some oil leaks, new fuel lines, and other repair work and ended up installing an elephant racing kit, with braid 16" wheels and BFG K02 tires. It's been a lot of learning but a lot of fun. This car will hit some dirt and gravel roads but will mostly driven on pavement. I've corner balanced the car and am now trying to determine the 'best' alignment specs to give to my mechanic. Using some string and a digital level I was able to get the car straight enough to drive 45 miles from my garage to home but plan on bringing it into my Porsche mechanic next week to dial it in (it's currently not quite straight). For the purposes of getting it home I went with specs below... F: Camber = 1.5 degree neg. F: Toe = 1/16" out F: Caster = Did not set R: Camber = 0 degree (could not get any neg camber) R: Toe = 1/16" in Looking for any guidance and advice, would appreciate any help or ideas. Pics of the car below, thanks. ![]() ![]() ![]()

If it's mostly a street car I would think relatively stock alignment numbers would work. I am just guess, but I would think that would help minimize tire wear, etc.

If you haven't already, I'd reach out to Chuck at Elephant Racing. He was a great help to me on my safari build.

Toe out on your front or rear wheels will make it twitchy. I don't see any reason to deviate from the stock alignment specs if it's driven mostly on the street.
How high above the Porsche F/R ride height specs did you raise it?

Been meaning to post an update, it dawned on me to just call Elephant, Chuck was a big help and gave a recommendation. Car is going to the mechanic on Monday to get aligned.
My final height was about 29.5” front, 29” rear. Weight 40/60.

I've built a couple 911SC safaris and always align them to stock specs.

I agree with stock specs. I run mine lower than Chuck's recommendations, more like 27.5" because I like the rally style more than monster truck. Front is easy to adjust, I had camber plates already. Rear is more difficult to adjust so you don't have positive camber.
