Help and Suggestions For Instrument Panel Label
Back in 2010 I made a modification to my '88 to improve cabin ventilation. I posted the procedure on this forum:
https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/618190-improving-cabin-air-ventilation-system-3-2-liter-porsche-911-a.html But I never completed the final touch - a nice, tastefully done, and Porsche-quality label for the compressor on-off switch, located in the port where the headlight washer switch would normally go (see picture below). I would like to come up with a small label that says "A/C-on" to affix to the instrument panel, between the speedometer and clock. I'd like something better than a Dymo Label Maker or Brother Transparent Tape label, something plastic or metal that I could affix with double-sided tape. Something approximately .25" tall by .50" wide, flat black with white lettering would be ideal. Would any of you have suggestions on where I could get something like this made? I'm also open to suggestions other than what I've stated. I realize that someday this car will be passed on to a future owner that will probably wonder why the A/C doesn't work and "what the hell does this switch do?". Thus, a label is important. ![]()

Just me Dave, but I don't think you can come up with anything that actually looks good. Porsche doesn't use labels for their switches that are under there, so I don't see why yours should need one.
How about instead adding a note in the owners manual where the other switch functions are described? For that matter, the mods themselves should probably be conveyed to a future owner. Print out your thread and keep that in the manual too. Maybe even tuck a copy in the dash behind the clock, or in the smuggler's box. Just my thoughts, I understand if you still want a label. Your car. Mark

The switch in the photo is not the headlight washer. That is the switch to move the left or right side mirrors. How do you change the mirror positions if you use that switch for the compressor?
![]() At least on my 85 it is. The headlight washer is between the speedometer and the clock. II understand the need for a compressor cutoff switch. I have the Griffiths temp control switch. It has an off position, and it comes with a LED that lest you know when the compressor is running or not. At autocrosses and track days I turn the hurricane blower to max, and turn the compressor off to get air blowing on me. And I have the fresh air blower on max. It helps on hot days.

Mark - Agreed, what you state makes a lot of sense and is the way I've gone for the past 14 years. I may end up just keeping it this way.
Joe - The Comforthouse link seems to be exactly what I was looking for. Glen - The mirror switch on my '88 is right above the ignition switch, adjacent to the sun roof switch. I see where your headlight washer switch is located. So I guess I was mistaken on the location where I installed my compressor switch - I really don't know what that was for. I've installed the Kuehl infinitely-variable fan control but this has no effect on the compressor operation so I still need my switch. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions - Greatly Appreciated!
