What muffler fits a G body w/ SSI's?

Installing SSI’s on a G body car. What is available for a muffler besides a Dansk?
74 being the only year of 2 in 1 out, haven’t seen much for choices. Not looking for loud.

The tail pipe has a lower position because of G bumpers. There were multiple years G body 2 in, 1 out mufflers, some had EGR inputs some not. Thermal reactor mid years were 2 in 1 out.

Isn’t 74 the only year of 2 into one mufflers? 75 and up went to the crossover pipe system didn’t they. Anyway, looking for a muffler for G body bumper, I only see Dansk.
Thanks for your reply Gordon.

Not looking for loud go with a Dansk, the M&K and Scart are loud.

Rick I have a slightly used 2 in 1 out Dansk Sport that I used for about 100 miles - I decided to go with a Scart for more sound.

+1 on the Dansk. It's what I run on my 1973 with 3.2 engine. Dansk makes two sizes, the basic stock one and one with larger inlet and exhaust pipes. If you are using the larger diameter new Dansk/SSI's, then use the larger muffler. If older SSI's, then stick to the standard muff. The larger muff is a bit louder, but not as much as the aftermarket performance exhausts.

Ian Carpenter runs the larger one on his green SC "Kermit". Maybe he will jump in to discuss.

I thought the two sizes were for the exhaust tip outlet - OEM size so you can use the OEM tip, or a larger 84mm outlet.

You are probably right. I know it has a larger outlet. Maybe not the inlets. And the muffler itself is not "larger"--I just referred to it that way.

Achtung Kraft's active GTK muffler? Especially if you don't want loud / want some control.

Related thread: Achtung Kraft exhaust experience?

I run a Dansk Sport 2-1 w/ SSIs + no cat on my '78 SC and love it, but it's definitely not quiet.

This is a both a technical and preferential question. What "fits" and what provides a sound you like are likely two different questions. I recommend you listen to similar cars, (stock 2.7 exchangers or other 2.7's with SSI's, to see what sound you like.
I've got a hot rod 2.8, G body with SSI's and a scart, riva and it is a bit loud, but i like it. I haven't got it fully sorted, or on the road.

Muffler preference is a very personal choice, (for both you and your significant other), whether it is a Porsche, Ferrari, or Toyota.

Ride , or drive a similarly equipped car, to see what you like.

Muflers are expensive

I've one of Ben's limited run custom 'quiet' sport mufflers and it's an excellent blend of sporty, performance, and lightness with zero drone.

As mentioned above, it's all personal preference. I'm actually wanting something more obnoxious to switch it up. I've had B&B and both M&K 1- and 2-out sport mufflers. Thinking to go with a GT3 or GTK setup if I can find either pre-owned.

I just installed a set of thick flange SSIs on the 3.2 in my 1988. When I went to install the Dansk Sport Muffler with GT3 outlets, I ran into two problems.
1) The grooves on the hanger are about 3/4" higher than the seam in the muffler
2) When lining it up without the hanger, the muffler contacts the engine support.
It seems that the relief in the muffler that is supposed to allow for that clearance is smaller than the radius of the lower part of my engine mount.
Anyone have a similar issue?

All of our dual inlet mufflers are designed to fit OE Porsche early 911 dual inlet exhaust spacing like the factory exchangers and SSI. The only difference between installations on G-body vs F-body is the tailpipe angle.
M&K dual inlet mufflers come in both Sport and Street versions. Our headers also exit in the OE location so you can mix and match different headers and mufflers.

I'm running SSI's on my '88 along with a Dansk single outlet muffler. Had no problems with the installation. I like the tonal quality - sounds very similar to an early 911S. No noticeable difference in volume when in the cabin.
