911 Carrera 3.0 1976 Rear spoiler as option?

Hi!

Do you know if European Carrera 3.0 was sold with rear spoiler? Or, was it an option? Or only turbo models?

Thanks!

Josep

There were 3 possible versions
1) non AC production line f/g w/ PU edge

2) dealer installed, all PU and quite heavy

3) w/ AC factory production line, but also seen on some non AC cars, f/g w/ PU edge

Most were sans spoiler with the exception of the UK “Sport” carrera 3.0s which came with tails and are listed on the COA. I’m sure there is every possible exception to the rule but my understanding is most came without and many were installed by the dealers whether it was the fiberglass/PU or all PU. PS yellow car above is mine

911 Carrera 3.0 1976 Rear Spoiler as option?

Nathan, how's your weather in the sunshine state?
Asking, what configuration of license plate is on your yellow?
Stay healthy & safe.

Hey Mill. Weather is beautiful. Covid is way down. Life seems somewhat normal. The plate in that photo is while the car was still in Australia.

1. Do they have stamped any serial number?

2. Would it be reflected in the Porsche certificate?

As delivered on a 76 Carrera. The part numbers are sometimes found on the center support brace.

A/C would have used this larger secondary vent shown on the silver tail.

On the A/C version, I assume the extra grill channels air to the A/C condenser?
Great looking tails
Nathan- were you at Sherwood’s cars&coffee in Alhambra couple weeks ago? Thought I saw your car there.

There are two aux grille versions. Smaller grille and larger grille. They are for condenser and added cooling for the turbo.
Yes that was actually my shop that the event was at glad you made it

930 didn't get an intercooler until 1978, also got a new tail at that time, the 'Tea Tray'

For '74 -77 the versions w/ the extra grill used that area for AC in the large version which is seen more often on turbos

Here's a '76 turbo version showing the inner components and part #

here is a '77 turbo showing the components in situ

here is a '77 Carrera 3.0

The '74 Carrera 3.0 RS was unique in that it came w/ 2 tails
short version was like all the other small grill versions
long or IROC version illegal for street use in Deutschland, I think that Bob aka Group
911@AOL originally posted these

I can't ever recall seeing a large grill version on a n/a car, but then I haven't seen them all either

I think I just assumed it was for an intercooler but I now realize my mistake. I guess just extra air for cooling for the presumably hotter running turbo? I’m guessing small aux for non AC turbo and large aux grille for AC turbo. For 76-77 NA cars it gets weird as most didn’t come with a tail so it was literally “dealers” choice on which they put. Without AC the logical one would have been no aux grille and with AC you would think the large aux grille as it closer resembled the dimensions of the condenser. We now know we can find every one of the three tails on any number of C3s out there
