Part 911.362.117 Fuchs 16x8 good on rear of SC?

Just double checking. Would this PN fuchs be a good choice? I'd like to put these on the rear and install 245 for DE.

And on a separate note:

Would a set of 9" make a big difference, I think the rubber you can run is the same (245) but people think that the tire may sit differently (better) on the 9"?

Those 8's would be a perfect choice. 9's are better, but more $$$$$.
Maybe it makes sense to go to 9's first off though rather than get 8's & keep wondering if 9's would be better

Apparently it gives a wider contact patch w/ 245's compared to the same tire on 8's. Also has a squarer more vertical sidewall profile.

As for the real world difference, maybe somebody can chime in?

Are you sure about that part #? Something seems off

In any event look for the ET#, as long as it's ET10.6 you are all set.

9 is better for track work, think of it as having better leverage.

I recently purchased 2 of the 8's the same part number you are describing and I am putting them on a 83SC,I have done a "search" on tire sizes and there is tons of debate on 225/50 vs. 245/45 on 8 inch wheels,however if you go to Tire Rack and look at Yokohama AVS100's in the technical section it says it can be mounted on 7.5 thru 9 inch,but all the specs they list are mounted on a 8 inch wheel,so I am presuming they feel the 8 inch is the best compromise?That is the tire I plan on going with just not sure what width I'm going with.Just for another point of view,my car currently has 7 inch on the rear and the previous owner installed 245/45 Yokohama's on it and they have lasted about 12000 miles and are wearing damn near even all the way across,I would have thought they would wear the centers out first,go figure!!

No, that is just what they had, not what will be best. The reason they post those #s is that a wider wheel will actually measurably distort the tire carcass, making the cross section larger and the height lower.

I would want a 225/50 or 225/45 on an 8. But you can do the 245/45. It's just that if you want to optimize things the widest spec rim will be best

Tire wear will be more a function of alignment and air pressures.

For an AVS Es 100 245/45 on an 8" rim the section width will be 9.7" w/ a height of 24.6" and tread width of 9.4"

the same tire on a 9 will have ~9.9", height of 24.5" and the same tread width.

A 225/50 on an 8" rim will have a section width of ~9.2", a height of ~24.9" and a tread width of 8.3"

I don't know what year but there is a Fuchs wheel offset chart that I believe came from Rennlist and the wheel is listed as follows:911.362.117.00 10.6mm offset,112mm backsize.

What would one put on the 951 fron 8" wheel? 225? or 245? The 225 will fit the 7" wheel too.

If you run 8" fronts, is it about the fit of the tire on the rim, like the 9" rears?

I sure want to buy 16 inch track wheels only once.

I read in a post from Wil Ferch quite some time ago that there were two Fuch 8x16 part numbers with the 10.6mm (911) offset:

911.362.117.00(early)
911.361.020.45 (late)

Is this true? I typically only see the .117.00 part talked about.
P.S. where does one find these???

frankc you can find wheels in the classifieds of Pelican,Rennlist,E-Bay etc.,I just bought my 8 inch Fuchs from "70 fasty",he advertises here and e-bay,good guy and he has lots of Porsche wheels.

aigel, if you really want to max. the grip use 225/45 on the 951 8" fronts and 245/45 on the 9" rears. Talk to 89911 thats the set up he is using.

Yes, 911.361.020.45 is a s/s to 911.362.117.00

I agree w/ Bill on this, if you can afford them at this time or luck into a deal somewhere. I found a set of 16x8s for a good price and I'm running 7s/8s w/ 205/55s in front, (stock size), and 245/45s in rear on Yoko ES100s. Here is what the 8s w/ 245s look like:

Since this will be for the track, and I still have my 7 and 8 by 15 with fresh rubber for this season, I will take my time.

It will be:

951 8" for the front with 225
911 9" with 245 in the rear

I want to only do this once. Will be more $, but it isn't like you can't get your money back on a decent set of fuchs, if you ever change your mind or sell the car.

I currently have 6 & 7x16 Fuchs on my '77 w/Carrera flares, but have been looking for some 8x16's for the rear (plan to go with 245/45). For the front, I was planning on leaving the 6's on instead of moving the 7's up because I understand that in order to accomodate the 7's I will need to roll the fender lip which I would prefer not to do. Will this create an understeer situation? Can I go wider than 205/55 on 6x16?

If I remember correctly, didn't the '89 911 (year prior to the C2/C4's) have an option for 6 & 8x16 Fuchs? I remember seeing one of these at the dealer in '89.

Frank:

Rolling the lip isn't a big deal at all. You can't see a difference from the outside, if it is done properly.

Anyway, I have seen turbos with 6" wheels in the front. It won't affect your daily driving much if you stay narrow in the front. It will look starved and if you go autocrossing or to the track, you will have understeer, indeed.
