HOOBOY! Curt, signed up for your Cayenne yet? You doctored the spyder pic, right?

Didn't touch the photo - it's the real deal! Must have cut holes in it for brake cooling. I'm surprised Porsche didn't fish this photo out of the archives to promote the Cayenne!

Perhaps they were too ashamed to do so? I mean, that would be admitting that the original design wasn't perfect...

I have been by a couple of dealers lately and there seem to be lots of Peppers on the lot.

I really question the claim that all the production run is sold. I wonder if some of the early adopters who put in orders early cancelled them when they saw it in person.

There is a cayenne in my garage. It's not mine, but I get to drive it. You should see it parked next to the 72 and the boxster-what a boat. BUT, for a suv, it is a hell of a lot of fun to drive. Very fast, handles great, lots of little goodies in it. I amazed that it has the standard auto, tiptronic and buttons on the steering wheel. Come on, who needs all of that!
Where I live, there is a dealer right down the road that ALWAYS has at least 3 in the lot.

I just saw a Cayenne on the street this weekend. I was driving my motorhome along the highway when one pulled in behind me from the left...

Just kidding. I really did see one - I think they are much better looking in person than in pictures. If I were in the market, I'd buy one.

They already used the classic 550 lines for the Boxter...

Yeah, I went and looked at them last week (8 of them sitting on the lot at a small dealer). I'm due for a new truck soon. They do look much better in person than in print, but they still leave me unimpressed - look too much like everything else on the road. And they're not really setup for towing at all which is a problem for me. I didn't drive one and maybe that would make up for the blah styling ...... -- Curt

BTW, Car & Driver has the best description yet of the 5724 pound Cayenne Turbo's impressive 5.0 second 0-60 times: "it's not the velocity per se but the giddy sensation of enormous mass being manhandled by oceanic force, like a tugboat being manhandled by a tsunami."

Those are sure ugly holes someone cut into the front of that poor 550!
I wouldn't copy that design into my new SUV for anyone!

Those are not stock brake cooling holes and I find it hard to believe that anyone would "modify" a 550 like that regardless of the era. I agree with the idea that is a doctored picture.

I can assure you that is not a doctored photo. I believe it's Ken Miles?? and I found it on a very innoculous website with nothing but 50's era sportscar photos (95% non-Porsche).

Ceger,

I think the new VW Tournog can be set up pretty well for towing. The diesel has something like 500 ft/lb of torque.

I think the Cayanne probably drives great, and it doesn't look bad - its just that it doesn't look great IMHO.
