72 Indicator Wiring

Starting to wire up the headlights and indicators on my backdate. Have the correct 69-73 lamp wiring looms, however am realizing the indicators I bought (a long time ago) have different colored wires. That and the sealing cover seems to have the plug glued into it which means taking that out and replacing it with the loom "plug" is going to be a challenge.

Anyway, first question is - which wires am I looking to connect and thought I'd double check with the experts here.

The loom has brown, grey and black/grey. The lights have red, black and green.

I'd take a venture to guess that green leads to brown as a ground and the red connects to grey and the black goes the black/grey leads.

That sound about right?

Also, I'm not sure if the sealing plates are sold separately as I'd like to use the loom to directly enter the indicator. Right now it looks like that won't be possible with the existing plate without modification.

I would recommend a cheap continuity tester, but if you want a guess, you may be right....
Green ground is most likely the Brown, Red is likely the Grey/Red, and Black is likely Black/Grey.

Just remove the non factory style wiring and do it up right.
The little bit of adhesive they used on the grommet will pry off fairly easy.
No need to splice the wires when you have the right ones made to fit.

Need a New Wiring Harness? PM or e-mail me. Search for "harnesses" in the classifieds.

Thank you both. I’ll test out the wires later this morning. I spent most of yesterday wrestling to get the Rennline LED headlights installed. That was not fun!

Timmy2 - I’d like to use the original harness, however I suspect I may have to widen the holes as the sealing plugs are different sizes (by a reasonable amount). Also they were quite liberal with the glue so there is a chance I’ll break the plastic hence the question as to whether the plates are sold separately.

Basically if I go down this path I foresee new indicator boxes in my future :-D
