A/C - D/C : Highway To Where?

OK, just to follow up on this, today I added R12 to the system to the specified pressure. The "I" in this case being a neighbor who I recently found out had some R12 and necessary equipment from his previous life as an A/C mechanic at his dads shop.

Anyway, the system is blowing cold for now, we will see for how long, but it held a vacuum ok.

I'm not sure the system is working correctly though. The ball in the sight window of the receiver/dryer does not appear to move. And the receiver/dryer is warm to the touch. I didn't notice this until after my test drive later in the day after the neighbor had gone, Ice cold beer in hand. I'll ask him about it tomorrow.

Anyone else care to chime in on the reciever/dryer?

John, Is it still blowing cold? You haven't parked the car just because of a little rain have you? 10+ inches in a week! I thought I was going to have to bale out the garage. My A/C is dead also so I am interested to see if you got your problem solved.
