Why would you remove the Bumperettes?
 

when they are a perfect place to set your beer, 8mm and 10mm sockets and stare at your engine bay looking for something to do

They are known as baby buggy bumpers in some circles.

I really would like to replace them with Euro ones...

I have mine on as I like stock, but the US ones are actually pretty heavy. Some people go for the weight savings out back...maybe 10 lbs for the pair of big chunky US ones (?).

The big ones are FUGLY, The little euro ones, less so. And yes this is not only rear most weight, but contributes nothing to performance, originality be damned.
Mine are off.
Despite the weight savings, however i will not yield to fiberglass bumpers - there are still way too many miscreants that park by ear and I'm not sure if the insurance company's will pay for the damage if you have ditched the bumpers.

Yes, those US ones are big enough for two beers each side (or 20mm sockets instead of 10mm), whereas a Euro bumperettes are much lighter. I like them - good as a parking aid.

Just plain ugly , eyesores that look like they don't belong !!

I was in a parking lot at the Rocky Mountains National park. Some dummy rolled backwards and bumped right into my US version bumperettes as I was in the car setting up the next destination in GPS. It pushed me forward a few feet. I jumped out and looked at the damage, and there was none. There was a dirt mark on the umperette, that wiped right off.

It was a good thing they were on there, or I would be in jail still. ;)

Yep some dopehead passed out and crashed into the back of my car and it was fine. His tow hook directly hit the bumperette. No problem. I dont mind the look of them maybe because its a black car and they blend in better. Good for sitting on when you need to also. I think they look weird without them or even with the euro ones but im probably just use to looking them big ones ;) And with the whale tail they just go together it looks right

Quite simply, because I have a magnetic holder for my beer and for my sockets.

Besides, I prefer bottled beer and the bumperetts are not really good for that.

Hmmmm... I wonder.... custom bumperettes with a dished top surface.....

Confession time. Someone in a Ford Mondeo intentionally parked me in. There was lots of room behind the Ford and he was against my 911. I said to my friend "not a problem." In reverse, plenty of rev's and it pushed the Ford back, it destroyed his fibreglass bumper and didn't put a mark on the SC :D

I was going to go with the euro ones. I bought a set out of Europe and decided to go bare. I was repainting the bumper anyway and welded the holes closed.

Whenever I see a US spec 911 with these awful, huge bumpers I just think of the song with the words “Fat Bottomed Girls…..”. UScrash regulations ruined the looks of many cars and the 911 is one of them. Fit Euro or delete altogether but keep the bumper shocks.

Why...because they are Fugly.

Weight and looks for me personally. They are at the tail end of the vehicle and weigh 15.5 pounds.

In terms of keeping them on in case someone rolls into me, yeah maybe. If their bumper is 8" off the ground, otherwise it's going right into my reflector or decklid.

PS I miss the shelf for the beer and 10mm socket though. :-D

15.5# hanging off the back equates to 373.6 lb-ft of torque to change direction

just for the record I want to say I like the look of the US bumperettes, I like the look of the euro bumperettes, and I like the look of the folks who have removed them altogether for a shaved look.

i think that they are cool. They are a substantially made part that after almost 50 years looks new when a bit of glycerin is put on them. Imagine what they would cost new?

Well, mine were in very bad shape when I got the car. Ripped, falling apart, and a few studs were gone - so off they came. I JB-Welded the holes before painting. I have thought about putting some Euro bumperettes on their because it doesn't look quite finished...

And I have a rolling garage cart to hold beer and tools.

Purely for aesthetics and weight loss exactly where you don’t want it. And add crash tubes for even more weight reduction.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1731383030.jpg
