my project 81 SC

i bought this car from a friend that used to take it to sebring race track. he got ill and cannot work on it or drive anymore he left it sitting outside for years. so i bought it from him. I'm getting the engine worked on and rebuilding everything on it even down to the calipers because they were seized from corrosion. the targa top was removed for weight reduction and now has the light weight top on it. Car has 70 plus k miles on it. here are some pics

Thank you
Im not sure on width this Sunday I will start to dis-assemble car and prep it for paint I will check the width of the wheels. the door panels are full of mold and deteriorating debating to go with RS style door panels or keep it original. The seats are stock but has roll-cage inside and Rs bumper with wale-tail. What do you think?

I don't know, the roll bar seems to extend further forward than most, since I can see it past the Targa bar in the first photo. If you are tall (and have the seat fairly far back), that might be too close for comfort. Wouldn't want to hit that with your head in an accident if you are not wearing a helmet. It might even interfere with conventional seat belts.

If you have kids, I would also want to have the back seats, in which case it has to go. You can still do track days in a Targa without the roll bar.

I would take it out.

Mark

Manuyc,

That's a pretty color and a great project. What are your goals for the car? And what do you want to learn as you get there?

I want to make car close to stock as possible. I love working on cars i'm amazed on how simple this car is but at the same time so beautiful it is. I'm sure i will have a few questions a long the way. I will take the roll bar out.

sorry for late reply, thanks for the compliment.
My goal is to bring it back to close to original as possible.
The history of Porsche is very intriguing to me. Plus I love working on cars. The old classic cars have character and there is something about these type of cars that just brings joy me when I drive one and even just look at they are like art to me I can stare at them all day.

Mark sorry for the late reply. I did take the roll bar out and purchased seats and seat belts from Tom Butler on this site. I agree the roll bar for me did take away a lot from the car. I have two daughters and would like to take them and maybe the wife(JK) for a drive.
