911 SC mirror attachment

So my mirror fell off the windshield and I am attempting to remount it but it doesn't appear to have a mounting "disc" that detaches from the body of the mirror. Anyone have any suggestions or a link to point me in the right direction to reattach it?

Thanks!

Hello,

Would you be able to post a photo for reference?

Here's our interior mirror section. Hopefully this helps!

Thanks Melanie! Apparently I have the earlier mirror that uses the adhesive pad to mount the mirror. I thought I needed to glue it and didn't know how to keep the mirror in place while the glue dried.

911 SC mirror attachment

On my 85 911, there is a metal button that the mirror slides down onto. The TRICK is to clean the glass and the button completely. Use a razor scraper to clean the glass then use a regular glass cleaner to clean the windshield to be certain the glass is clean. Then follow the directions on the glue.

I put a black dot on the outside of the glass as a reference of where the button goes. Use the package supplied cleaner, then just one drop of the glue, and press and hold the button in place without moving it around. Wait the length of time recommend on the glue package. Then be sure the set screw is backed out then slide the mirror over the button and tighten the set screw.

Tada! Done.

Look on the base of the mirror for the old button. If not there, many auto parts stores have them.

When you mount it don't make the mistake that the PO of my 1989 made. They mi\ounted it too high, and I cannot see out the rear of the car more than about 15 feet.
