911SC rear Targa window install question
Question for those of you that have tackled the rear Targa window installation. I've read multiple threads on this and was able to get my rear Targa window reinstalled after a respray using the ratchet strap method (highly recommended for anyone attempting to replace the rear window and seal).
Question I have is, once it is installed, do I need to use a bedding compound between the rubber seal and the metal/glass? I've seen at least one thread where someone used 3m 08509 Bedding & Glazing Compound, but haven't seen any other comments about it. It seemed like there was some compound under the seal when I removed the window originally, which I assume may have been original.

On recent removal of the rear Targa glass from my '87, it did not have any additional sealant. Having said that, the glass was R&R'd by a body shop 20 years ago. It's possible they deviated from factory, but I doubt it.
Interested here because I will be reinstalling it relatively soon. |

WMichelsen, I just got my hands on a set of factory workshop manuals and looks like the factory calls for a sealing compound. 3M apparently doesn’t make 08509 anymore, but I read some threads about a substitute called CRL7708 Windshield and Body Sealant. Found it on Amazon so that’s what I’m going to use.
