RE: '87 with G50 trans

Nine bolts off of starter ring/pressure plate and nothing will budge. How do you get this d*** thing off?

I read Bentley, Wayne's 101 Projects, and factory manuals.

I quote the factory manual, Repair Group 30-117, Removing (clutch), Section 1. d. : "Remove clutch retaining bolts by slacking bolts uniformly (I did'nt do this). Remove clutch from flywheel."

That's pretty much where I'd like to be right now.

Finding a decent slide hammer to use on the release shaft was a godsend today. Thanks AutoZone for the loaner.

Oh yeah, mine has the original G50 fork/shaft assembly. Bearing surfaces in good shape. I now know what needle bearings are. Guess how many are in each bearing. I think I found them all.

So, how do I get pressure plate off?

I haven't done this with the P car but most other clutch pressure plates are also located inplace by 3 to 4 dowel pins. You simply have to carefully pull or pry the pressure plate back away from the flywheel untill you clear the dowel pins, a gentle pry with a large srcewdriver will help.

I had the same problem. Like movin said, pry with a large screwdriver gently.

I'll go that route. I hope to have some pics to load this weekend.
By the way, there are 23 needle bearings in each shaft bearing. I counted them as I picked them up in the driveway!
