Bump for Ian

Bob Ashlock 03-20-2025 12:43 PM

Hang in there Ian and get healed up.

Old H2S 03-20-2025 01:50 PM

Ian would call me twice a week and push me to try.. and then send him the data I collected. My car is a beater and far better than stock because of his input on what works and the details he gives away for free. He is part of the brain trust on this web site that share hard won answers for us knuckleheads asking ignorant questions over and over and all these guys are all getting old.

That’s the Ian I know!

A little back ground..
Ian was sot out by the U.S. Government, chosen and given an offer he could not refuse to train the best of the best in high performance driving skills for escape and evasion. On a daily bases for 17 years he taught SEALs, SF, Recon, Rangers, Delta, CIF, PJ's and 4300 other DoD dudes from the pointy end of the spear how to get out of trouble with 4 wheels, plus some cool shooting from cars stuff.

SiracHaile 03-20-2025 03:05 PM

Ian reached out to me while I was trying to determine optimal deck height for my engine build. He called me and spent a considerable amount of time not only sharing his knowledge but also explaining the why and how. He didn’t have to spend all that time and answer all my questions, and he didn’t ask for anything in return. He just wanted to help.

Wishing you a speedy and full recovery Ian.

I love all these stories.

Please keep them coming.

It’s a true testament to Ian’s altruistic, selfless character.

It warms my heart and I am sure it will warm Ian’s.

Please spread the go fund me on social media, and where ever else you can.

Let’s show Ian we are here for him too!

Ian thank you for your kind service and going above and beyond to help me numerous times over the installation of my 123. I was shocked to see this post this morning and want you to know I will be lifting you up in prayer. God has a funny way of getting our attention and these are the times that make us think about our life and what's most important. Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery! God bless!

To add another short story of Ian's kindness. I visited your side of the pond last August for a family wedding. I was in LA and wondering what car stuff I might be able to enjoy and noticed a cars and coffee event in northern LA. You don't know how lucky you are having such good weather nearly all of the time... Anyway, there was an interesting selection of cars but I noticed a nice early 911 with someone adjusting the carbs. We got talking and it was Ian, tuning someone's car. I knew of Ian from this forum but had never met. A really interesting chat which then resulting in a test drive in the owner's car to demonstrate how well it went and also a demo of how relatively softly sprung it was but still held the road really well, and I mean really well. Very generous of his time and it was a high spot of the visit(and the owner's car...). We have corresponded by text since. Here's to a complete and speedy recovery Ian, we are all rooting for you.

For Ian

Ian has been a friend for so many years I can’t remember. He constantly ribs me for ‘forcing’ improvements to Kermit so that he and I could continue to play cat and mouse as I’ve built blucille to greater capabilities. He’s got me beat by a long shot for sure.

Ian very graciously assisted my engine builder during 3 or 4 revamps to my motor. Here he is during the most recent (and final) incarnation.

Stay strong, my friend. We are all cheering you on.

I am fortunate to be in the circle of friends with Ian, he is surely one of a kind.

Here is some more Ian'ness.

After a couple years of being phone friends and exchanging hard fought knowledge with each other I had the pleasure of hosting him on my dyno at the end of last summer in NJ. Having him be so exciting seeing how much power we were finding on Kermit was the highlight of my year.

Here is a short video of some of the fun we were having.

Sorry to hear this sad news. Ian been a great help with my PMO carb tuning and timing of my 2.8. He even came to my home and drove my car. Even gave a official Ian Butt dyno tune as he liked to call it. Great friend. Get well soon buddy.

An update from a friend who does not frequent these forums:

Just finished visiting with ian. He is in great spirits and doing quite well! Took him for a walk down to the ground floor and outside into some sunlight :-)
His walking is strong and he has regained some strength and dexterity with his right hand.
His speech is improving a bit but the nurse (Mikaela) says he really would benefit from some demanding speech therapy.
I took him some reading glasses and Apple earbuds for his phone.
He really relishes in person visits so pull out your frequent flyer miles! ;)

Ian's such a great guy. I've posted a few threads asking stupid wrenching questions and he PM'd me for my phone number and has always taken the time to walk me through a bunch of 911 problems over the past few years. He has also given me names and resources for technical problems in the region when things were above my ability level.

I hope he has a speedy and full recovery. He's an asset to the community and the kind of selfless person we should all hope to be to our fellow enthusiasts.
