Ian is one of the good guys on this forum. I haven't had the chance to meet him, but have exchanged messages a couple times, when he contacted me privately to offer help with questions I'd posted on the forum. I wish Ian a speedy recovery.

I've only known Ian a relatively short period of time, but we shared some interests. i got to know him a little bit and was looking forward to spending some more time with him. He has a great positive outlook on things along with lots of enthusiasm. I had heard about his stroke from some mutual acquaintances, and, not surprisingly, I haven't been able to contact him since.
I think this picture was the last time i saw ian, in January '25 with Tango, his new targa, next to my '73T. Please pass along my best wishes for his recovery. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1742763832.jpg |
Engineerdave. You can call him his phone is back on. He can’t dial, but he can answer and he can press redial. He is talking a bit better but needs the interaction. You can text him but I’m not sure if he’s able to read them or respond. I have sent him some pictures and then talked to him. He recognizes voices and people but sometimes struggles with names.

thanks for response. i didn't get an answer this afternoon, and mailbox is full, but i'll try again tomorrow. At least it didn't go directly to an announcement that person i was calling wasn't taking calls. so that's an improvement.

Ian is very generous with his time and genuinely likes to help people. Ian always found time to help. Good guy.
|
I had my first phone conversations with Ian this past year, after having some issues with Webers, he told me to stop being a little girl and drill the plugs and how to clean everything out. We went around and around about some suspension stuff and some other cars I had here. He was very generous with his time and knowledge!

Figured it was time to bump this thread.

I was just thinking about Ian and hoping he was doing well!
|
I talk to Ian by phone almost every day. He is walking and doing better, he has a tough time dialing the phone but he can answer it. He is still in the hospital.
|
I called him a couple days ago too. He is improving and has intact memory. He's frustrated at how slow the recovery process is, and is looking forward to getting out of the hospital and back to Kermit.

Donated ! Get well Ian SmileWavy

I called Ian today. He seems to be in good spirits, but the words all get jumbled. It feels like his brain is firing on all cylinders and yet it’s only connected to his mouth 50% of the time. He was excited to hear some stories and share some activities of mutual friends.
|
I missed this post and it’s unfortunate news about Ian. Have a friend who had a stroke and it’s incredibly frustrating for him to get the words out even though his mental clarity is 100%.
Best of luck, Ian! Your post a few years ago about double clutching was the best I’ve read on the topic. “Clutch in, to neutral, clutch out, rev match, clutch in, next gear selected, clutch out.” |
Sharing and Ian, you have a difficult journey ahead, take comfort in knowing that we are in your corner and pulling for you.
|
I called him out of the Blue and He was very generous with his time and knowledge!
As we all know, Hard work pays off. Keep working Ian! |
Just got off the phone with Ian today. Spent a few minutes talking with him. He sounds in good spirits and is continuing to work on his recovery. He appreciated the call. Thought you all would like to know

Ian reached out to me numerous times offering help with various things pertaining to 911 Porsches.
He’s never even met me, but took the time. Great guy. |
I've talked to Ian a couple of times since he's been in the hospital. I sent a note to him at the temporary Albuquerque address, but it came back, so i assume that address is no longer good. I called him again today. he didn't answer but I expect that when he gets a chance he'll call back. On the basis of my previous phone calls, he's making progress in his recovery. He's retained his positive attitude and I think that will be a big help to him.
