Wink no first gear

Pulled up to a stop and went to shift down and no 2nd or 1st gear. I was able to limp across the intersecton in third and pull over. Pulled up the boot and went for the easy stuff, all that was intact. Now, I'm 1.5 hours from home with my lovely wife in the car and what seems to be a large problem. I got under the inspection plate for the shift rod and found that the bushing had disintigrated. Now what? I have a cheap tool kit form amazon dot com, I purchased last week to keep in the car. I took two socket heads that fit in the holes on either end of the universal. I stuffed the socket ends with paper towel to tighten them up around the rods "T" end. My wife ever thinking went across the street to a grocery store and purchased a little ducktape. I wrapped it real tight and off we went to finish a great afternoon cruise. Just felt like telling folks that would understand this little triumph.

Great job of creative thinking and if I were you I'd keep your wife, she sounds like a winner!

Looks for white '86 Carrera #2. Blue horns on white helmet (really!).
