New Los Angeles Porsche shop -- from one of our own
I wanted to be the first one to congratulate Tyson on this big step -- and to let other Pelicanites know about the new Porsche shop in Los Angeles.
Long-term members will remember Tyson Schmidt's contributions to this forum going all the way back to 1999. I became friends with him through this board, and worked hard to convince him to move down to Los Angeles to be a technician for the shop that did the work on my car. I was lucky to have him there when I crashed my car at Laguna Seca -- Tyson was challenged with transferring the old drivetrain into a new chassis while he engineered a new suspension to make the new version of the car faster than the old one. He was able to incorporate a bunch of his own ideas into my build -- and 15 years later, the car is still surprising people with its capabilities on the track. Tyson worked for TRE Motorsports, and Wevo, and most-recently as the race technician for Hergesheimer Motorsports in Orange County. But now he's opening his own shop in Burbank. PRO Motorsports, as he's calling it, will do all varieties of Porsche service, but will go further than most when it comes to suspension and track prep. The PRO stands for 'Porsche Racing Optimized,' and Tyson's own history as a race technician and also as a racer will back up the promise of that acronym. Here's a picture of Tyson. I hope he doesn't mind my posting it. (It was taken by Alexander Bermudez.) ![]() Tyson's one of the nicest and smartest guys I've ever met. When people press for details on why my car is able to corner as well as it does, the discussion always leads to Tyson and the stuff he came up with. His breadth of knowledge on suspension and handling extends a long way past just knowing what parts to put into a car. He's able to understand how every component is working together -- to tune the whole package -- to make a Porsche as fast as it's capable of going. The shop just opened this week. These are the details: PRO Motorsports (818) 848-8848 508 S. Victory Blvd, in Burbank (Full disclosure, I have no financial interest in the shop and have to pay the same as everybody else. But I'm happy to do it, since I wouldn't want anyone else working on my car.)

Straight up guy.
Met him years ago in PNW. Can't remember if I sold him something or bought stuff from him. Doesn't matter. Just remember him as a smart young guy with knowledge, ambition and a smile.

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. It's a big step, but it was time.
I'm happy to be back in the L.A. area where it all started. I'm looking forward to getting back in the Porsche scene here again. Those days working at TRE were a blast, and I'm looking forward to reconnecting with all the gang at meets, canyon runs, and of course the racetrack. If anyone is in the area, stop in and say hello! Oh, and special thanks to Jack Olsen for being my unpaid publicist. ![]()

Congratulations for taking the step Tyson!
Unfortunately, Hergesheimer is about 3 minutes from my house and I need a complete new suspension. Burbank is a stretch. I will PM you. Mike |
