RSR spring plate bushing install 'issue'

Hi all,

Car is an 87 that had original bushings and plates. Install was going well but the RSR races do not sit flush in the torsion tube. The races protrude about the same as the width of the lip of the race. Same on both sides. Yes, they are inserted all the way and against the inner ridge of the torsion tube. The result is that the spring plate is now farther out away from the tube from where the originals were and there is a significant gap at the trailing arm.

Is this normal? I'm thinking that the trailing arm will bolt up and 'pull' into position but am concerned about flexing the spring plates. The RSR outer plate requires only 2 shims to get the appropriate tension on the plate, so the kit seems to 'fit'. Would really appreciate some insight before I epoxy them into place. And if the races did fit flush then the system couldn't be tensioned properly, correct?

Mine fit considerably proud and other’s have, too. I measured the depth on each side and had to have a buddy cut down the depth of the each race according to my measurements in order for them to fit.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I found one other thread where they had machined the races.

The gap width between the outer lip of the race and the body is ~2-3x the shim stack so am I correct in thinking that if the race is machined to be flush, the assembly then cannot be appropriately tightened even after removing the shims? It seems like it would result in slop or lash between the inner race and the outer plate.

I had the same issue with my 88. I don't know why they would not seat fully. I switched to Elephant. Hated to have Rebel stuff up front and Elephant in the back but it is what it is. It's all quality stuff.

Although it’s a PITA, I think the RSR are worth the effort. I
