Glove box light

Hi all

Had a new stereo fitted yesterday and now the glove compartment light doesnt work. I have taken it out and there is a spare spade connector with no wire attached. Should something be attached to this.

Should add this is a 1988 G series.

I’m guessing I should by a multi meter…..

Sorry for the dumb question

That extra spade on the side isn’t used, light grounds on the ends that snap it.

My wiring is a bit different than on the ‘88, but assuming if you have one, check the 3 position switch isn’t in the center position which would turn off the light independent of the plunger switch. The glove box door plunger switch can be stuck not making contact when gb door is open.

Also check fuses, the GB light is full time power like the interior lights (do they work?) and also the bulb which I believe the overhead interior bulbs are the same so quick easy to swap and check that.

Unless installer (didn’t remove glove box liner) perhaps used a splice to illuminate the radio tapped into the circuit disconnecting lamp. Seems long shot, too much in the way to tap there anyway.

found this posted elsewhere on the forum.

I just recently got my glove box light working again with a new LED bulb and have all the wires attached to the light, but the glove box switch doesn't activate the light even though manually switching it does. thought the switch was bad but looked at it today, its such a simple grounding switch I can't imagine its bad. whatsoever "pulse transmitter #31"? I assume its a relay.

One thing to mention and correct in my earlier comment …when I was fiddling are with my glove box removal for the door covering reattachment, I accidentally ‘grounded out’ the hot terminal on the body - shorted out fuse and didn’t realize it. So careful where or if you swap out those terminals and when reinserting the fixture, I had to remove glove box again to get at plunger.
But the only two terminals for the bulb end are connected on mine are used like the picture above.

It’s been a while since I figured out the glove box plunger switch wasn’t making contact, brushed clean and lubed the plunger did the trick. I think these have a tendency to be pushed in too far causing spring to stick besides tarnishing of the contact.

Unless the wiring is truly different from ‘77 to ‘88….I wonder why your wire is Red when others are Blue/Black. So it’s important to look under the dash at the radio connections to be sure what if any splice was made.

Thanks for the note. I’ve ordered a new light fitting as the rocker switch wasn’t moving too well hopefully this and checking the plunger contact will sort the issue

Mine was stuck in place too. I took it apart and cleaned it up. There’s a small spring loaded ball bearing that “clicks” the light into each position. Mine was seized, not allowing it to spring and move the light. After some electrical cleaner I was able to get it moving again and work as it should.

On a different note, what model stereo is that? The Blaupunkt? How was the install?

hey, thanks for posting all of this, I fixed mine last night. It’s never worked and I didn’t realize it rocked into 3 different positions like the interior lamps! What a cool little detail. Wiring was fine, just a bad bulb and really dirty contacts.

That is the Blaupunkt Bremen. I have the same one and I love it. It is a modern unit with Bluetooth, and USB ports for thumb-drives to play music, or from your phone. I like the ability to plug in my phone, and play music from my phone, and have the GPS function as well.

The controls are easy to figure out, and it sounds great.
