915 Rebuild Kit

All

I did some searching, didn't see anything definitive.

Is there a master thread on a 915 rebuild kit? Is there a base kit out there including syncros??

My 85 915 is starting to give up the ghost in 2nd syncho, and I am not much of a double clutcher.

As always, much appreciated.

Thanks

Jack

You tear it down and order the stuff it needs, basically. You could start with 5 syncros, 1/2 shift sleeve, 3/4 shift sleeve, maybe 2nd syncro teeth and a gasket set to get you going.

Thanks for the reply, as always, Pelican forums are the best.

Assume the sponsor has most of the parts? Or should I hunt around?

While PP probably has all the parts, I would shop around. Last time I checked Stoddard had all the parts at a good price.

I’ll be rebuilding my 915 at some point.

California Motor Sports uses OEM bearings and syncro rings only.

I had them assemble my 915. A whole story by itself.

There's a ton of 915 threads if you're willing to do a little hunting. It's worth your time to spend an afternoon digging. I reference Pete Zimmerman's wiki at least once on each box I do.

One major item of note: only Rauch & Spiegel gear teeth have the required back taper. OEM, factory, etc. do not. Beyond that, don't reinvent the wheel. Parts are expensive but there's really no way around that. Buy OEM and sleep good at night.

Check various Porsche dealers online too, like Gaudin, Suncoast, and Sunset. You might be surprised at their prices...in a good way.
