Rear window gasket wrinkled in corners
So it’s been a year and we finally got around to putting the rear glass in. The gasket was a little strange in that it did not seem to have defined corners molded into it like a front window gasket does. We popped it in without too much trouble and these wrinkles will just not go away. We aligned the seam in the gasket to the center bottom of the window. I am pretty sure these will not relax over time and will leak. Thoughts anyone?
This is not a factory seal (last few I have used or seen used were garbage), and is not a URO one. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yer gonna hafta change it.
Right now, the Porsche seal is the best option. Although URO makes an excellent front windshield seal, it does not make a rear window seal.

Are you sure the rubber isn’t rotated by 180 degrees? I don’t like how the rubber is sitting on the lower strip above the engine lid. One seal that I had needed the seam at the bottom to fit right, although it seems far more common for the seam to be at the top.
I just did this with factory parts on my 72, it was a *****. I had a little bubble in 2 corners but I worked the aluminum lock strip and was able to get it to settle down especially after a few hours in the sun.

I am pretty sure that the rubber is not rotated 180°. As I say when it came out of the bag it was in it did not appear to have any corners molded into it. Before I remove it and try and rotate it 180° I’m going try a suggestion from a friend who has a 930, and is very familiar with Volkswagen bug rear windows. He suggested tapping the trim in the corners out towards the body edge, thereby pushing the gasket away from the glass, towards the car, as that may be relieve some of those wrinkles. That’s easier to do than removing the glass and rotating the gasket, so I’ll report back if I make any progress.

IMO, that will make the wrinkles worse. BTDT with a URO seal and am now sporting a seal from Porsche.
