Cell Phone Holder

Has anyone found a good solution for mounting a cell phone in an older (89) 911. I dont like the suction cups, they tend to always fall off. I dont like the vent clips as they also fall off. My phone has a case so I dont think the magnetic versions will work the cup holders on my car are flimsy so prob not the best solution someone must have figured this out. Thanks Chris 89 Carrera

rennline has a cool ring that mounts around the clock and you can position the phone in just about the ideal location. Leaves no marks, very unobtrusive. I highly suggest the magnet, especially with apple products, add a thin steel ring to the outside of your case and the phone will NEVER fall. But, if you insist, you can mount any kind of clamp mount you like to the rennline ring mount. I'm sure our host has this available.

I have installed the metal plate on the Renline phone mount behind the phone case and it still holds the phone on the magnet

I have a Rennline mount in my VW wagon, holding an iPhone with the magnet behind my case. Works well most of the time, but over large, sharp bumps the phone will fall off. When it bothers me enough, I can always replace the mag mount with a clamp mount. I have another one waiting to go into the 911. Minor annoyance: the set screw included is an odd size, included in none of my many allen wrench sets. Wrench not included with mount.

I have the Renline one as well. With the magnetic flat base it works quite well with my iPhone. I can unscrew the magnetic base and that leaves a ball mount, that my GPS just mounts to. It would well, is not on the dash or windshield. Windshield mounts are illegal in some states.

I wanted the Rennline mount badly however, the magnetic plate I thought would interfere with wireless charging. I would hate to loose that feature on my phone.

there's a MagSafe supported ring that allows charging, yet keeps the phone well stuck to the mount. I bough 6 spare rings for a few bucks on the amazon.

For my '87 I made a cell phone holder that is secured by the open ashtray. It works fairly well, and I like that it is high enough to see but not directly in my line of sight, but of course one cannot use the ashtray while using it.

I have the Rennline and have driven thousands of miles with it. Love it, but... Couple things. 1 - I had two and broke the first one trying to get the knob/ball tight enough to keep the phone in place (Given this was years ago, new ones may not have the issue). The ring itself is an easy mount. The second one I ended up making sure I knew exactly what angle I wanted and where I wanted my phone and didn't tighten too much and ended up using a tiny amount of super/gorilla glue to hold in place. It's been perfect. Just an FYI in case you encounter the same issue...for the price shouldn't be that way...but it is what it is. 2- I have an aftermarket system and wanted the phone to plug into the stereo to connect and to charge. The cable from the USB port to the phone so that can get in the way of shifting in town, etc...so again, just an FYI. EDIT: I have the magnet and have no issues. The one included does real well on the phone case. I have two cases...I keep the magnet case in the 911 and swap when I drive... Being in south Texas and doing cross country drives 2-3 time a year the Rennline has been great. Good Luck! Erik

Thanks. We've sold approx 50 or so here in Aus. All happy owners. I've not sent any to the usa before, but if anyone is keen, pls get in touch. I think the current exchange rates make it very appealing if you live in the USA.

I have the Rennline mount but replaced the magnet base which wasn’t that strong, with an Amazon misc wireless mount. It has a better magnet and it just snaps onto the same ball, most are probably interchangeable, and cheaper than buying their new wireless option.

I’d love to know more about that option, too. Facebook link led me to a dead end.
