Engine dilemma turbo or na
Have an engine dilemma:
I bought a cool 930 that has been sitting for + 20 years, was 'running?' when parked. 930 is a tuned engine, 3.5, cams, other turbo etc Some options: - rebuild the 930 - but my concern is that cost could be very high as I have no idea why the car was parked. Is the rebuild cost turbo/na comparable? - Sell the turbo engine and buy a rebuild engine, but it's now matching numbers and no idea on value of an old school tuned turbo engine - can buy a 993 rs spec engine and thought of putting the matching turbo in storage, but possible with the 4 speed trans or 5 speed required? The 993 engine is an engine I can easily resell if I ever decide to rebuild the 930 Suggestions are most welcome |

Rebuild the 930 engine if it needs it. The real crazy value of the 930 is the original engine. The kick in the pants boost is the big part of that car.
Of course it is just a car, do what you want to it.

Get it running and see what it needs before deciding. Dopkes shop was 30 miles up the interstate from the dealership I worked at for 16 years. I worked on many turbos at the dealership and then later at my own shop from there....

Agree with get it running first. Drive it, see what you have and what needs fixing, then decide on your next steps. My advice: Try like hell to keep it a "driving project" and resist the urge to do a lot of things at once and end up with a long term "garage project."

If the engine is numbers matching I'd keep the car together. You didn't mention what year so here's the 1986 valuations from Hagerty.
