Are my fog lights installed backwards?

Ever since I brought my ‘85 Carrera home, I’ve felt that the fog lights must have been swapped right-to-left. Am I right, or is this the way they came from the factory??

If they have been swapped, was this something that people did back in the day to have them work better in slow corners at night?

Nope, that's the correct placement to illuminate the fog and center lines in inclement situations.

They do appear a little wall-eyed. (or not?)
For adjustment, the metal casing is mounted on a post that will pivot up/down on the case, and L/R where it bolts into the valance. You might need to loosen that main post bolt, but should be able to swivel them L/R.

Definitely something not correct with the installation.

Looks can be deceiving especially from picture angle.
I would get on a flat road/driveway and see if they’re out of alignment and adjust accordingly…beam not too high/low - not too wide/narrow…so they’ll be useful and correct if ever needed.

Ok- thank you for posting the pics of yours. That looks way better! Now I gotta figure out whether they are swapped left-right or are just upside down!

they appear to be on the correct side and right side up. they may be aimed to the out side excessively, but other than that look correct.

Just re-examined your first picture. In that one, I think I see what appears a bit of a gap on the left, with the longer extended plastic going into the valance on the right. Since that's the passenger side, that does appear to be L/R swapped. The longer extension on the black plastic bezel goes toward the outboard.

In this case, you should be able to just remove the 2 accessible screws from the front, and pull the black bezel off. Then, pull the fog light glass straight out. It will stick a bit from the rubber gasket, but should wiggle out. And, you'll need to disconnect the wires.

The internal metal housings are the same L/R, so you don't need to touch them. Just swap the glass and black bezel L/R.

It's very rare we use those FOG lights. Unless you plan to fly in clouds?
Too much detail or too much time on hands?

They really should be facing more to the forward position. I have driven in heavy fog, and yea, they help, but not a ton. I do use them at night driving in a neighborhood to help illuminate the yards and help me see a dog or cat, or any critter out at night while driving at 25 MPH.

After a long road trip.

I live at an elevation where we get upslope fog/ cloud formations……so I will occasionally need these lights. The fog can get really thick here.

Thanks for the pics and tips guys- another chore has been added to my long list!

I aligned my fogs, after replacing the lenses & bulbs, by putting a straight edge, like a piece of 1" x 2", horizontally across the front of the car, touching both lenses. Then adjust the vertical of each with a small level. Like a wheel alignment, I think being symmetrical to the centerline of the car is the most rational way to uses them on the street.

I assume you have an SC or older car with the flights mounted on the bumper and not integrated into the lower valence? This will work on an SC, but the 3.2 has an angle built into the light assembly and lenses, so the faces are not parallel and the top to bottom line is not vertical.
