Common sources of door rattles

Hi guys - hope everyone is having a good weekend. I was hoping to get some coaching on where to hunt down my passenger side door rattle. This is for a '74 so no power mechanism.

I have the door card off but can't seem to find where the rattle is coming from. It is persistent at highway speeds.

Thanks!

Look at the metal bar/shaft running from the interior door handle to the latch. It should be supported along its route by some type of "insulators" that keep it away from the interior metal frame. I can't remember exactly where or how many, or if they are plastic or foam, but I do remember seeing them as the bar passes closely to the framing.

Another place to look is at at the locking shaft, running from the button near the front of the door top to the rear where the lock/latch is located. It too should have some isolation from hitting against the door frame.

Finally, the door window mechanism should also be secure with the lifting arms not being able to vibrate against each other.

Check the mounting for the window frame.
On my car, the small mounting plate and bolt (closest to the speaker hole) was installed incorrectly and causing the rattling.

I would also add self adhesive rubber foam pieces where the locking rods are.
Hope this helps.

Did you checked your door strikers?
Usually if broken they produce the rattles you describe.

The 10mm socket you lost a few years ago is rolling around the bottom of the door.

Look at the metal bar/shaft running from the interior door handle to the latch. My rattly door was the same problem as Ossiblue describes.

I just found this thread doing a Google lens search. I found one of these loose in my door too. Can anyone elaborate on where it goes? The image link above is broken.

Thanks
