Also, at roughly $50/each to simplify a once or twice a year event seems excessive to my way of thinking. It takes me only a few moments to remove the factory plug (which includes a magnet) and also allows me to ensure there are no nasty magnetic bits in my oil. But as I like to say: your car, your money, your choice.

Good point about losing the magnetic capability of the factory plug. I would also be nervous that someone could just reach under and drain my oil out- fully aware that my fear is very, very unlikely to happen...

99.999% of the general population have no idea there is a valve there. It requires a strong push to get the lever on the valve to open, and one would have to lay on the ground to find it.
As a belts and suspenders move, I use a metal "zip tie" to secure it in place. And it takes a lot of pressure to cut through it to remove. ![]() Just to the right of the plugs for the oil drain pan you can see the old cut off metal "zip tie". The part may not show up as fitting a 911, as it was designed for some diesel truck. ![]() You can see it is a metric M22 x 1.5 and fits a 3.2 Carrera perfectly. I suspect it fits the SC and older oil tanks. And yea, there is no magnetic component. The plug on the engine still has a magnet, and there is a large oil filter to catch the bad pookie. My engine drain plug had almost no residue when I wiped it clean with a paper towel. One can also just shove a rubber hose over the nipple, and drain the oil right into a container. With the huge volume of oil, that valve just made total sense to me. I don't sell them, and I have no connection to Fumoto. Use it or don't I have no dog in the fight, and I just posted the information to be helpful. One advantage is no more aluminum ring to replace on the tank during an oil change! That 25 cents will add up in a few hundred years!

What if you attached a strong magnet to the outside of the reservoir tank and then just popped it off just before you open the drain valve. Good idea or not?

would the flow of oil be enough to flush out the debris? Downside is you don't get to assess how much sludge is on the magnet anymore..

Cut the oil filter open with a oil can cutter. That is the real test of debris, magnetic and non magnetic. If the filer is clean, don't worry at all.
