Rear-view mirror re-mirroring?
I have a passenger side rectangular (74-75-style) rear view mirror that I broke the mirror out of. In digging around for a replacement, I've learned that the reproductions are backordered and the real once are scarce.
Does anyone know if its possible for an auto glass shop to fit a new mirror into the old frame? I've lost the rubber seal that goes around it, but it occurred to me that the later mirrors (76-on) might be the same shape piece of glass. Does anyone know?

Jack-
I'm almost positive they could - its probably just a matter of price. Last winter, the driver's side mirror on my '85 separated from its backing and just 'flew' away. Luckily, I have my choice of dismantlers here in the Bay Area, and I was able to get a replacement for $20 - and they installed it for me on the spot. Anyway, I took the old backing to an auto glass shop so I would have a spare - they wanted $35. I passed on it, since it was just a spare, but they were available.

good luck jack. i once had a shop cut a new mirror for the 68 only rear view mirror. it was taped when i picked it up so the glue would dry. i was told not to remove for 24 hours. of course i didn't wait and removed the tape when i got in the car. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!! i don't know what they used for a template but i went back in and got my money back.

Jack, I know this is an old thread but I have the same problem. What did you use to seal the mirror back into the housing. Did you find the correct seal or gasket?
Thanks Eric
