Anyone ever fashioned a trailer hitch for an early 911?
Looking to find out if anyone has ever fabricated a trailer hitch for a 65-73 911. Pics would be great.
Thanks, mto

Never seen one, but a few months ago on ebay there was a hitch set up for a 356 made by porsche I think, or it was at leasts German and period correct.
What do you plan to tow? A broken down Vette? or maybe an airstream?

No, no...a little Harbor Frieght trailer with 4 race wheels and a bolt on box for tools and such. Very Small.

Remember the real cost of the little track trailer -- all the speeding tickets you get for exceeding 55 mph, because you're now an auto with a trailer.

There are countless folks I race with that regularly travel 80mph plus with the trailer, so I'm not too worried about that.

Jack,
Luckily (or maybe not) there is only the speed limit that governs trailered vehicles here in Colorado. I had heard that CA limited towing to 55.....

Emptyo,
I am in the process of finishing mine for my SC right now so I could post some pics tomorrow. If you are interested, you could make one for your car, I don't live to far from you so you could come check it out mine first if you want. The hitch that I made for our SC will be almost completly hidden and with your early car you could probably hide it behind your plate (depending on your exhaust choice) and then have that flip down to reveal the hitch.

If you do a search here for trailer, you'll get a bunch of hits. I forget the name (hollywood trailer, so something), makes a hitch and trailer setup (hitch not sold seperately).
Didn't MikeZ (or someone) have a hitch w/ the receiver hidden behind the rear licence plate ?? EDIT: Yep, it was MikeZ, here's the thread (w/ pic): Trailer Hitch for 911SC hint: use the "only in thread titles" button when searching for trailer threads to limit the # or results. In California, they'll get you for the trailer. But it may be that other states don't have the problem.

My understanding is that it will work with with safety bumper cars like an SC but with our early cars. There just isn't enough space since the muffler sits right against the center plate. The olny solution I've thought of is some sort of reciever system that would drop down from the two bolts where our bumpers mount onto the early car. But, it would end up being very long running end-to-end almost. And very low to the gound unless it ran in a U shape bringing the cross bar up behind the plate.
But then you get into having to remove that big thing at the track, you don't want that much extra weight at the wrong end of the car. If you make it happen I'd like to see the results for sure. I'd go the roof rack route myself. Jack, no such rule here in NC. And at 110 behind my Miata through Florida on the way to Sebring the trailer rule would not have mattered much!

I had a custom trailer hitch made for my '73 911, I know I did some pictures with the rear apron off I'll look around. I had a Southsport trailer we towed at around 80-85 m.p.h. There is a Southsport trailer for sale on the pca-ggr website for $600 b/o. I sold mine last year for $450.
