SC /993 Conversion
GT-Racing has a 993 body conversion kit that makes a 911 look like a Cup car. Has anyone had any experiance with one of these kits or similar parts? How do the body parts fit and what is the quality like? Except for the rear flares ,I assume the rest of the parts are pretty much bolt on. I understand that there is a company called AIR that also makes a similar kit. I don't know if I would consider making the conversion or not , but I would wonder what the O.E.M. parts like the hood ,fenders, bumber assemblies, deck lid with whale tail , 16nch Fuchs etc. would be worth off of an SC.

It would probably be cheaper in the long run to just buy a 993. Between the cost of the labor and the drop in value of the car. None of this fiberglass stuff is really "bolt on". I think I saw a 993 for $25K in this months "9" magazine.
Some one did a beatiful yellow 993 conversion. I can't find his web site right now, maybe some else can find it. He called his car The Beast. -Chis

A lot of those parts need a good amount of body shop work before they will fit properly. I have heard that almost none of them bolt on. It might be easier just to find a converted SC. I have seen some for reasonable prices.

I've installed some different fiberglass pieces (all from GT Racing) and none of it "bolted right on". It takes some patience to get it fitted, but once it's fitted properly it looks good...and is very lightweight.

There's a company called Einmalig (I believe they're in Huntington Beach, CA) that evidently does a lot of conversions. I stopped by one day when I had some time on my hands, and they had three cars under "construction".
They may be able to provide some insight........

I can't believe The Beast is for sale. If it is the one belonging to a Board member, it is an excellent conversion and a very sharp looking car. Do a search and you'll find photos of all the progress. Last I heard, The Beast was being built into a twin turbo Super Beast.

Hey, who said the Beast is for sale? I am going to sell the super charger setup but that's all. Yes, I'm doing a twin turbo conversion right now.
Anyway, as far as a 993 conversion on an earlier car goes...nothing "bolts" on. Fiberglass is not a precise structural media. Unless you are going to do the work yourself and save the labor you'd be better off looking at the reasonably priced 993 now a days. However, if you're up for the challenge it's pretty rewarding too. Depends on what floats your boat. |

Mark, was your car featured in 9 Magazine, or is that the same yellow 993 conversion that was in excellence? I have to say, The Beast is probably the best looking project car I have ever seen.
