MSD 6A install on SC

Hey folks, the situation is as follows; I just installed an engine in an SC, that was already apart, now I am stuck at the MSD ignition. The car was running with the system in the past, but this is the first time I ever touched a car with MSD 6A ignition and I am a little confused. I followed the diagram in the back of the unit, powered the thick red wire, grounded the thick black wire, 12v+ with ignition on to the thin red wire, orange wire to coil+, black thin wire to coil-. Now the white wire to the distributor is left, and the two wires, black and red from the distributor. I assume the black distributor wire goes with the white wire coming from the MSD unit (the previously made connections match), but where does the red distributor wire go? It appears that it was not connected, as there is no terminal end on it.
Did I connect anything wrong? Am I missing something? The car was running with this set-up before the engine was removed.
Also, the original ignition cdi is still in its stock location but not connected to anything.
TIA!

Ok, I just spent over an hour searching, and I couldn't get an answer to my main question. Let me revise it. Right now, the distributor has two wires coming out of it. A red, and a black. Where should these wires be connected?
Thanks

Hey Mike ... the dizzy may have the Pertronix installed.. if so then this is some local info

The instructions say to hook it up to the - and + side of the coil/WRONG.. you can't leave the ignition on for more than 30 seconds or risk frying the thing. A Petronix ignitor eliminates the need of using points by way of a magnet and a sensor pickup..The problem arises is that the stock rotor with a spring loaded rev limiter(T,E or S spring) does not fit under the cap with the Petronix magnet installed on the shaft..The black Petronix wire hooks up with the purple wire (TACH) and black wire hookup on the loom close to the distributor or inside dizzy where the old points connection was..On anchoring the mount plate in the distributor, use locktite (at least I did) as the plate will come loose and cause a vexing high speed miss. Ask me how I know..also, for Permatune Connect the red wire of the Pertronix to the
violet wire of the 911e box and the black wire of the Pertronix to the yellow wire of the Perma-Tune." For MSD, exactly how you wire the MSD and ignitor depends on your engine and car but it follows the diagram for the most part. On the 72, for example, the tach connects directly to the ignitor output just like it did for the points, instead of connecting to the MSD tach output as suggests. Warren says, The Pertronix needs ground for the black wire, +14 Volts for the red wire from the fuse block ... and the output wire goes to the points connector, which ultimately goes to the CDI-unit 3-pin connector, the Speed Switch, and the tachometer. CamB says, black to MSD white wire, red to switched 12v

Ronin, thanks very much for the replies. Greatly appreciated! The distributor in the car is a stock SC electronic unit, with a black and red wire. I guess it has to be wired as is written in your last sentence, starting with, "CamB says..."
Unfortunately, it won't spark that way. From doing the search earlier, I learned how to test the msd unit itself by grounding the white wire intermittently, but even though all the power connections are correct, it won't spark. 12volts isn't even given to the orange wire (positive side of coil) when the key is turned on or cranked. Maybe it's a bad msd unit but it was certainly working before the engine was pulled.

You seem to be missing the magnetic pickup wires that plug into the MSD.
those connect to the dizzy's green shielded wires. Go out to the MSD site they have all the info. If you would like, I could send you a few pic's of the install on my SC engine

Hey Chappy, some pics would actually be great. There is no green wires coming out of the dizzy, just a black and red one.
Thanks!
