Other Car Forums

Id just like to say how refreshing it is to be able to read a car related forum without having to see quotes such as my car is faster than your car, and car manufacturer X is so much better than car manufacturer Y.

Why do I say this? Ive just been on the Honda Civic Type R website and the amount of absolute crap being spoken on there is ridiculous.

Just glad to see some car enthusiasts keep a check on reality.

Cheers.

I had a CRX about 5 years ago and could not believe the silly discourse that took place on the Honda forums. This group is much more civil.

If you are looking for a fight, go to the BMW boards at roadfly.com. There are constant personal fights about how stupid questions are and how stupid the posters are for their ideas.
THis board is refreshing.

However, I did find a good Volvo forum "volvospeed.com" It's the pelican BBS of Volvos. No trash talk, just good repair info. No where near as active as this forum. Pelican and all it's members is the BEST. I login every day as often as I can.

Those ricers are just imature want-to-be Porsche owners.

There was some fighting here a few years ago, and it even got very rough. But then everyone realized I had the fastest car and it all stopped.

Yeah I agree. There is a site here, tamparacing.com. that is basically rice street racers. Man what an aggressive bunch. I went on one day after reading a post about some moron in a honda that said he dusted a new P car just to defend the honor of our marque. I had about 20 guys challenge me for a race that night! They gotta lighten up. Glad to be a Pelican!

Aye, Pelican is a great forum when compared to the rest. I imagine it has to do with the age group and testosterone levels. Most of us here have outgrown our desire to be verbally competitive (we'll save it for when it counts).

On the 'Type R' this and 'SiXR Z Type' that boards, youll find that the primary members are between the ages of 16 and 18 and ready for a fight on a screen. Sexual tension is all it is.

There are some decent forums - www.bimmerforums.com isnt bad for BMW's and if your into Saabs, the guys at www.saabcentral.com are very civil with eachother.

Wow, I was on the E32 forum on Roadfly for a couple of years and never once saw a fight.

Tom, that was my car that ended the fighting. Your car is pathetic.

Let's not get too high and mighty here. I've seen plenty of fights and dissing of other cars on this forum. Oh and Super is all talk and his car is a piece of *****, not to mention I know that he personally craves a '79 vette.

Yes, I know. I'm a lover, not a fighter!

Everyone here loves Cayenes, 914s and Boxsters, just ask them.

Seriously, it's a great forum and I log in everyday morning and evening. Check out the other Pelican forums too. Idiot, glad you like it. You picked a strange user name.

I hadn't much luck finding forums on my two cars of interest, and tried spending some time at the e46fanatics forum, but it seemed to be mostly:

a) What's the biggest wheel/tire combo I can fit?

b) My dad will buy me a stock M3, or 330ci with a bunch of money for mods. What should I get?

[Disclaimer: During the time period I tried 'em out.]

I am currently Porsche-less and pathetic. However, I do have an 850 Turbo that is a great car and I really enjoy driving it, that is when I can get the wife to let me. I cruise the VolvoSpeed forum almost as much as Pelican. One of the admin guys, "Bay13", is top notch! He works as a service tech at a Volvo dealer and brings a ton of info to the board.

And you should see some of the mods.

Just check out this one.

Certain models of car seem to pull certain crowds. The Rennlist email list and forums seem to pull a similar crowd to this one, though the email list seems to have more of the 993 and 996 crowd than we have here, so there's not quite as much diy stuff as here. I can imagine that a Volvo forum would be the same and a Jaguar forum might too. Chances are you couldn't get a civic, mustang, or BMW forum that is the same.

Yeah, I'm tired of all the bickering over on the K-car boards.

Nothing but duct tape vs. old coat hangers and where do I get red tape to cover my broken tail light lens.

Just to defend the Honda camp here, not ALL the Honda forums are opinionated and action packed. If you really want to discuss how Porsches really suck, stop by the S2000 forums (www.s2ki.com)...j/k. I jump b/w Pelican and s2ki forums and notice the same level of information and maturity...well, most of the time. Different cars attract different folks, the majority of the S2K owners seem to favor the more professional types and many interesting threads are brought up other than "how many inches can I lower my car" and "are 19s too big?"
