Cat vs. Cat Bypass
Last night I returned my cat converter to it's rightful place on the car. Did this for two reasons. First, with the 2 out Flowmaster, it was just too damn loud. Second, I'm packing my toys for a move to Seattle and will have to get it inspected when I get there.
I installed the bypass a few months ago and thought I noticed a seat of the panties difference in the cars' power. I wasn't sure, because I thought the additional volume may have deceived me to think it had more juice. After reinstalling the cat last night, I can tell a significant drop in power. Enough so I thought something was wrong with the car at first. Good news is that WA smogs car up to 25 years old, and because Red is a 79, this will be the last test. Sounds to me like it's about time for a set of SSI's!! |

When I installed my "test pipe" a few months ago I felt an improvment also. Not much, just a little bit. I was informed by some "experts" that it was all in my head but I didn't buy that.
I'm glad to hear that someone else has the same impression. |

You're going to like the SSI system. You're also going to like your W WA experience, particularly the terrific pelicanheads in our area.

I don't think it was in your head. It's an old cat w/ a lot of miles on it. Installing the bypass is probably what a new cat would feel like. Last test, go for the SSI!

After I get there and settle in, I want to drop the engine to fix some oil leaks, clean up engine bay, do SSI's, maybe a set of 20/21's, backdate the heat, and have JW rebuild the tranny. After that, on to suspension!!! Anybody wanna come get greasy? |

If you don't do the SSIs, then there's also the premuffler... I found a much more noticeable improvement than the cat bypass.

Hey Mark- That is good info. I don't think I've seen a reverse "Butt Dyno" report on this before! I hope all goes well with the move. Will we see you @ the Pelican meet in a couple of weeks?

Hey Ed,
I'm absolutely planning to come. This may be my last get together in Dallas. I'm working a contract on the house that should close 9/5 if all works out. When that happens, I'm off on a road trip. Unfortunately it will be in the pickup instead of the pcar. Oh well....... |
