Rocky,
If i remember right, there were three hoses on the back of the stock aircleaner. One to the front truck charcoal? canister, one to the oil tank filler neck, and one short drain going straight down to a little catch deal. My charcoal canister is in a box somewhere, the drain is obviously negated and i put a $10 K&N crankcase breather on the filler neck, looks cool. Paul |
that's not a good idea to put a breather on the crank case venitlation. those fumes need to be routed back into the induction as the factory had it.
i put some k&n air cleaners on my '70T, i had to devise a solution for this... if you can tell or not, simply sticking a filter on the pcv still allows carbon monoxide into the cabin of your car. do a search under 'raymond' and find the pix of the solution my dad and i came up with. looks good and works like a factory solution. good luck! |
The factory crankcase hose still goes to the oil tank. I put the little filter on the outlet at the filler neck where it use to go to the intake. Granted, the fumes arent getting sucked directly into the intake as before, but i would bet alot of it doesor gets sucked into the cooling fan.

Air cleaner hoses
Paul,
I don't have a charcoal canister in my fuel system. German equiment car makes for a different system I guess? Anyway, I've got three hoses going to the factory air cleaner housing. At the top left of the air cleaner housing is the the hose for the fuel squirters. In the center rear of the housing is the vent hose from the oil tank. On the bottom rear center of the housing, in the back, is a small hose approximately 10" long that is the same diameter/type as the fuel squirter hose. This hose goes from a small nopple on the housing to what appears to be a vacuum fitting. Can't see it very well, only feel it, and I've never had engine dropped before so I don't know what attaches to that fitting. Engine is currently not running. so I can't tell if it is a vacuum line or not. Guess it could be a drain, but unsure where it would drain too. Inside of air cleaner housing is clean and dry. Anyone got a good guess what this hose is/does? Thanks! Rocky |
Its a drain
I don't know what its supposed to be attached to on the bottom end, but the nipple it attaches to on the air cleaner housing is the lowest point on the housing and as such any blow back (foam etc.) from the oil tank will puddle where this nipple is.
Wow, can't remember the last time I got to use the word nipple so often... There it is again.. :p |
inspirational picture

If you guys want these this bad, send me dimensions of it and I'll CNC a mold real quick.
Dimensions: length of top width of top(which gives me outer radius) Height Width of bottom(from that I'll figure out angle) I won't drill any holes in for mounting, I'll leave that to you guys. Saves me time and you money. I can make them in Clear epoxy,Amber polyester,Carbon fiber and I have some red kevlar. |
Can you drill CF easily after its made?
I'm interested, BTW. |
Hose fitting location
Derek, great picture! Wish my engine and engine compartment looked so good!!
Fitting is located here. Looks like it could very well be a drain for the air cleaner housing. I hope to have the k&n filters and watershields installed by the first of next week. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1076589955.jpg |
Yes you can drill carbon fiber after its made.Use a sharp bit and its fine.
I think I'll just buy an air filter and make it fit to that, which should be fine for webers. The MFI guys have that interference problem on the left. When I make the first one if some body has an MFI near me that I can see, I'll make a bulge on it to clear the problem and then remold it.Then you can have your set free. |
911R,
I'd be up for an MFI set. The red kevlar sounds nice, or the cf would work for me as well. JA |
911r The red kevlar sounds good to me also . RB
|
I would buy a set of 4 blank "filter holders" and cut the holes myself if it would save money. You can make blanks, cut them for carbs to sell and just sell them to the MFI guys as blanks.
For MFI, you really just need to move the holes about 1" to the side. Maybe not even that far. Paul |
I'm up for a set of amber polyester. I assume that this material is simillar to the factory racecar fiberglass used for fan shouds and the like? I'm also willing to drill my own holes.

You guys also want the bottoms, too? I've never seen the bottom piece before. Is it just flat on the bottom with a 1/2" return to hold the filter in place. I'm only familiar with IDFs for bug motors. As far as kevlar on the bottom piece,it would be difficult to cut that large of a hole in kevlar. I have special scissors just to cut stuff!! I can dye the resin red on the bottom piece to look like the top and use normal glass,as far as that goes I can put any color die in the resin. I have a clear resin that can be dyed.
If I buy a airfilter element and make the top fit it and come off at a 30* angle,go down 1 1/2" with a litttle return flange to finish, would this be correct? The bottom would fit around the perimeter and come up 1/2" and be flat, correct? If this is right I'll mill the molds next week. |
You can make every piece exactly the same as far as i'm concerned. Just so the filter fits inside with about a 1/2" lip like you said. I would perfer clear or amber resin w/fiberglass so the holes are easier to cut. What about price? Ball park.

jeff, as i said earlier in this thread, check my solution. do a search under 'raymond' and the thread should say something like 'solution for zenith, weber, k&n' something something... it works well. let me know if you need anything.
|
That engine is absolutely to clean!
I looked at some other pics of air cleaner bases, those studs that the wing nuts are on thread into the base plate. Would I have to make some threaded insert in the base for these to attach to? I will talk with my partner on monday about pricing. It won't be any more than whats out there now. Carbon and Kevlar will be a little more. |
