74 Carrera back from the paint shop after 22 months

At last I have my 74 Carrera is back from the paint shop after 22 months. It has been substantially restored and turbo arches and a full weld-in cage added. Full story here. The paint colour is Mexico Blue, an original 74 colour and the colour of Denny Hulme's IROC car

I'll give it up for that! All for a worn out syncro, huh? I think you should mount that sincro somewhere in your garage to remind you of what could happen in cause you have a burned out light bulb some day

That is going to be a beautiful car. How many hours of labour will it take to be finished?
The washing on the line in the background adds a nice touch of domesticity.

Thanks guys!

Bill, the oil cooler mod is home made, but similar to the TRE panel. The cooler itself is a custom made part.

JMZ, the stripes will be white, along with the rims

How many hours? Who knows? The body guy has charged me £4000 ($6600) for all the welding, prep work and paint.

The suspension is now on, wiring done

Brake and fuel lines are next, motor in by the weekend........

Hi Nick,
I have been down that same road, putting together a car with new or restored parts. Do you feel like a master tech at Weissach too?
Beautiful color, and beautiful car.
Then on to the '67? I did not have the courage to attack the RS...yet.
Keep it up, and show pics on this board! Kind of a daily progress (I know, too much to ask)

"Mexico blue" ??? You mean "Swimming Pool Blue" is incorrect?? All these years I've been calling it wrongly! Sorry guys!

Man there is no better point than when the fresh body rolls in looking like it's dripping wet!

Looks great!

I think the $ was a good deal. (I've been there myself and I know how many hours it takes just to fill, prime, sand, reprime, and paint a front bumper....not to mention the whole car!)

Nick:

You the man from across the "pond."
God, that car is incredible already. I really like the color, and I can't wait to see what the white wheels/stripes look like. I'd probably been a "bloke," and chosen the standard black. I think your car will really been striking.

And you're building a 2.8. One of my favorite engines (one day I will have one too). Great pics so far. Hope you post more (another already echoed that will be a pain for you). Many here on the Pelican site live vicariously though you (and others).

Great work so far! Very impressive.
Can't wait to see the finished product!
Your paint and body work costs are very fair (and typical) for the type of job you are doing. Looks 1st rate.

I'm sure you are at the point you are very excited to get the project finished. My only advice is take your time... it will be worth it in the end!

Can you tell I'm "pumped" about your project.
Thanks for sharing, and good luck getting her finished up.

Hey Jack, any more pictures of that now quite "IROC'd out" 911 you posted? Thanks

Wow, Nick...it's looking great!!! The Mexico Blue looks so good. I've been worried ever since you got the '70 E that the Carrera was taking a back seat, so I'm feeling better now. Based on my experience I think the $$ at the body shop is favorable, especially with the flares and cage.

I'm slightly ahead of you in my reassembly, but not by much. I did get the engine back in mine last week but haven't lit it off yet. It seems like there's been no end to the parts to refinish and unique fasteners to source or replate...kinda asymptotic as I can feel I'm getting closer but hard to get to the end. Maybe we should have a race to see who gets done first?

Stay the course and keep posting updates and pics.

Here's a recent pic of mine
