external thermostat options??
I am installing SSI's on my 1982 SC. When trying to get the oil line off from the external thermostat (front of the right rear wheel well), the nuts wouldn't move. Unfortunately, the thermostat paid the price and I broke it. Now I need a new one. Can I use the Mocal thermostat instead of the $300 (plus internals) OEM version? The reason I ask is because the Mocal thermostat looks like the fittings are oriented differently than those on the OEM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. |

Mocal is a bad choice for a whole host of reasons - wrong fittings, no pressure bypass, fittings oriented incorrectly.
The good news is for $300 the factory thermostat includes the internals. The even better news is that there is a thread repair kit that might work for you. Pelican has it.

I don't think the thread kit would help me, as one of the fittings cracked all the way off (still in the oil line). My next question was whether the "complete external thermostat" included all the internals, but you are one step ahead of me. I'll go with that. Thanks Chuck.
