Some enjoyable E-Bay reading

I was bouncing around ebay tonight, just checking out the market (911's o'plenty out there--sign of a bad economy) when I stumbled on this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10156&item=2428694045

These guys do have a unique and romantic way to describe old Porsches.

Dude sounds like a cross between Robin Leach & Ricardo Montalban. Swath of unmarked black Roser leather must be similar to genuine Corinthian leather & delightfully opulent Palomino hide, give me a break. The upholstery shop bent him over. I bet his reserve is at least $30k, I'd give no more than $18k. Dude is delusional if he thinks he's going to get even half his money back unless he puts it in a time capsule for twenty years. Other than the dead horse smell it's a nice car.

When money is no object...

If this guy had so much money why didn't he buy a newer car??? With all that he spent, I could have done 2 complete restorations!!!

When money is no object...or at least not for Visa!!!

Cheers,
Derek

Lot'sa money...

and a dirty, undetailed engine. Gimme the dead goat skin seats and the 12 coats of hand rubbed what ever paint products.

I care litte for the cars performance value...just as long as it smells good. Anybody out there got early p car funk..man I love it.

Price that car high boyz, the general public like's it that way.

Shawn.

What a waste. It's not in fitting with concours standards, not like this guy was trying to restore it to them but what a waste.

Come on guys, the car is OK, looks quite nice, mid milage, looks quite clean.

They have just over described it a bit. So long as you dont fall for that it is probably a good car.

I dont like the wheels though.

Too much.

Cut through the buII $hit and it looks like a very nice car. If he indead did all those things to the car its worth looking at.

There's a lot of BS in that typical CA Classix ad, but it's a nice Carrera nonetheless. I'd give him $10k for it.

I guess:

"Blue car, dingy tan interior, non original wheels, recent repaint and non original front bumper (hint: accident)" didn't work at first.

They had to turn this one over to the staff of "Californina classics" for a redo. I actually wept when I first read it. It would make a great movie!

Anyone else see this as a huge red flag? Why would you spend so much $$ and then mess with the odometer making it a 'mileage unkown car'. Anyone pulling a Carfax report on this is going to gt an 'unclean' report.

I added up all of his figures and he spent over $24,100 on this and ended up with a respray and nice interior. Now if you had a decent 85 carrera and $24K to spend what would you end up with?

If it needed a new interior, AC, paint etc, like this one apparently did, then I'd go the other way. Race seats, roll cage, harness, suspension work, sticky tires, dump anything that doesn't make it go faster... you get the idea. With good planning there'd be enough money left over for a health engine massage!

Come to think of it, Caliclassix had this car bout a year or more ago too. I guess they got it back from whom ever they sold it to. It had original Fuchs on it before.

Cool

I enjoy the cali classix ads. Even though there may be some polishing on some of the statements, I find the writing far more creative and intelligent than most of the fluff descriptions on ebay. I'm also fond of the lady models they use in their ads. They are usually a little outside of the mainstream. Haven't seen any in a while though.
